NIKA is hiring for a Senior Structural/Civil Engineer to support the Defense Health Agency’s (DHA) Engineering Division in San Antonio, TX. Job Duties and Responsibilities: • Provides Structural and Civil infrastructure analysis, assessments & recommendations which include (but are not limited to: • Understand building and retaining • Understand Life Safety design • Understand models by using computer-aided design • Determine loads and pressures caused by environmental or human • Follow construction safety • Choose appropriate (or better) materials based on industry standard • Monitor on-site construction • Communicate one’s designs, assessments and reports through presentations and in • Prepare and allocate • Track and report on project • Collaborating with contractors and project • Specific responsibilities include performing site investigations; analyzing structural/civil requirements; conducting meetings and design reviews with various offices; development of plans, specifications, and detail cost estimates; design leader responsible with coordinating with other disciplines to ensure the quality of the total design; and to trouble shoot on-going construction projects. • Prepare cost estimates for materials, labor, and equipment, ensure building materials are tested for stability and safety, as well as manage the repair, maintenance, and replacement of • Evaluate proposed projects and technical solutions based on need, code compliance, effectiveness, and life cycle cost. • Answer technical Requests for Information (RFIs) in accordance with codes, regulations, and DHA policy and procedures. • Travel to sites to investigate open requirement packages and conduct detailed inspections of existing conditions of equipment, evaluate the effectiveness of current maintenance procedures, and confirm the use of correct operational practices. • Provide a comprehensive and formal travel report detailing the observations, findings, and recommendations conveyed in a technical manner that remains consumable by a non-engineer. Required Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree in Structural/Civil Engineering. • Demonstrate minimum of four (4) years practical experience in the healthcare field. Three (3) years of this experience must have occurred within the last four (4) years. Practical experience is defined has having the direct responsibility for execution of design, installation, maintenance, or major repair of building structural systems supporting commercial, institutional, industrial or medical healthcare buildings. The expectation of this position is to possess the expertise and experience to resolve complex problems that his/her contemporaries cannot resolve. • Must be a U.S. citizen • Ability to obtain security clearance is required • Travel approximately 6-12 times per year Preferred Qualifications: • Expert level skills and extensive practical experience in all aspects of building structural systems necessary to accurately analyze plans, data, designs, operations and maintenance practices and the management thereof. • Knowledgeable of local, municipal, and federal building codes, criteria, and standards. • Have strong interpersonal, communicative, diplomatic, and analytical skills to provide highly professional quality presentations to executive leadership and large audiences. • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite. • Knowledge of design and visualizations mapping using CAD software. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. • Current Registered Professional Engineering License in the field of structural or civil engineering. • Possess extensive skill in facility infrastructure structural theory and practical applications in order to develop accurate estimates and makes sound recommendations for repairs, sustainment and optimization of building infrastructure systems. • Proficiency in the design of structures; analyzing (theoretical and historical) loads (Static and Dynamic); Building drawings, specifications and Design analysis; construction processes, Building Code requirements. • Proficiency in site layout, grading, utility design, erosion control, regulatory approvals. • Proficiency at analyzing long-range plans, survey/geotechnical reports, maps, and other data for planning projects.
