[Remote] SVP, Legal & Compliance

IMPACT Payments Recruiting is seeking a Senior Vice President, Legal & Compliance to lead and integrate the legal and compliance functions for an FDIC regulated financial institution. This role involves ensuring compliance with laws and regulations while providing legal guidance that supports growth and risk management. Responsibilities • Serve as the senior leader overseeing both Legal and Compliance functions for the bank • Provide strategic legal counsel to executive leadership on regulatory, corporate, contractual, and risk matters • Own and lead the bank’s enterprise compliance program, including policies, monitoring, testing, and regulatory exams • Act as the primary liaison with regulators, examiners, and external counsel • Oversee regulatory change management and ensure timely implementation across the organization • Advise on bank partnerships, vendor agreements, fintech relationships, and strategic initiatives • Support board governance, committee reporting, and executive decision-making • Build, lead, and develop high-performing legal and compliance teams • Ensure alignment between legal risk management and compliance execution across the institution Skills • Mandatory banking background — candidates must come from a bank or regulated financial institution • 15+ years of progressive experience in legal and compliance leadership within a bank • Demonstrated experience owning both legal and compliance functions (not one or the other) • Deep working knowledge of banking regulations (e.g., BSA/AML, consumer compliance, safety & soundness, governance) • Experience managing regulatory exams and interacting directly with federal and state regulators • JD required; bar admission in at least one U.S. jurisdiction • Proven people leader with experience building and scaling teams • Strong executive presence with the ability to balance risk, growth, and regulatory expectations • Experience supporting payments, fintech partnerships, BaaS, or technology-enabled banking initiatives • Prior experience reporting to or presenting before a Board of Directors • Background in growth-oriented or innovative banking environments Company Overview • IMPACT Payments Recruiting is an executive search firm in the payments industry.
