Located in Fairfax, Virginia, SIR represents one of the most innovative, exciting and competitive specialties in medicine today. SIR is a 501(c)(6) professional association that supports more than 8,100 interventional radiology physicians, trainees, medical students, scientists and clinical professionals. SIR is also comprised of SIR's 501(c)(3) Foundation, which focuses on research and fundraising to advance the future of interventional radiology. Together SIR and SIR Foundation have nearly 50 staff, combined annual revenues of $12.6 million, and assets of nearly $17 million. Position Summary The Senior Manager of Government Relations is responsible for representing and advancing the interests of interventional radiologists before Congress and the Administration. This is an ideal opportunity to advance and grow in your career as a healthcare advocate. The position provides the challenges and rewards of growing a robust advocacy function to support an exciting medical specialty. This role will report to the Director of Government Relations and plays a vital factor in organizational success. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Lobbying: • Manages the federal government relations program to lobby Congress and the Administration. • Evaluates federal legislative and regulatory proposals to identify and address both threats and opportunities. Creates and implements advocacy plans. • Crafts policy positions on emerging issues and communicates to influence policymakers. Creates issue briefs, analysis, testimony, advocacy communications and comments. • Represent SIR in coalitions of patients, clinicians, researchers and industry to identify new opportunities and build partnerships to achieve the organization's mission and policy priorities. • Represent SIR in meetings with elected officials and fundraising events. • Ability to register as a lobbyist. Grassroots Program Management: • Devises plan to recruit and mobilize grassroots volunteers to influence policymaking at appropriate pressure points, including engaging, recruiting, training and mobilizing SIR members to have direct interactions with Members of Congress. • Maintain and expand relevant internal databases to reflect legislative champions, SIR- supported legislation and members matched to elected officials. • Utilize grassroots advocacy platform VoterVoice to conduct Calls to Action on legislative and regulatory issues. • Expand the SIR Advocacy Training Center to properly train and prepare physicians to approach and engage with elected officials. • Prepare bi-weekly IR Advocacy Newsletter and legislative reports for senior staff and physician volunteers and update advocacy pages on SIR website. Political Activities: • Provide support to the political action committee, SIRPAC. Devise and implement fundraising plan to increase SIRPAC contributions. • Identify Congressional campaigns for SIR to support, work with fundraisers to host events. • Attend SIRPAC and related PAC events. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: • Strong writing, editing and public speaking skills-should have the ability to communicate ideas clearly and concisely for a variety of internal and external audiences. • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Should be self-motivated but also enthusiastic team player. • Excellent organizational skills and keen attention to detail, with the ability to prioritize work and manage time on multiple projects and tasks to meet deadlines in fast-paced environment. Education: • Bachelor's degree required, advanced degree in public policy or equivalent preferred. • Health care education, knowledge and experience a plus. Experience: • 3-5 years of experience with demonstrated knowledge of federal legislative advocacy success. • Medical specialty, healthcare advocacy experience a plus. Requirements: • For this position applicants must be located within Washington, DC area • Approximately 15% travel required which includes three annual meetings for up to 5 days each. Working Conditions/Physical Requirements: Use of phones and computers for extended periods of time. Utilize office equipment and communication technologies for conference calls and teleconference meetings/webinars. Requires general mobility to move through the facility. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds. Frequent interaction with internal staff and physician members/board via phone, in person, email and other mediums. Normal sitting and standing activities for an office environment. Some travel primarily for SIR Annual Meeting and AMA and ACR annual meetings. SIR is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
