Software Network Engineer
About the position As a Network Engineer IV at Spectrum, you will play a crucial role in leading the planning, implementation, and enhancement of complex network systems. This position involves designing corporate standards, developing network enhancements, and ensuring the stability of local and wide area network infrastructures. You will collaborate with various teams to deliver high-quality customer experiences and mentor junior engineers in networking systems. Responsibilities • Lead the planning, forecasting, implementation, and identification of resource requirements for high complexity network systems. • Design and establish corporate standards for network systems. • Develop and implement network enhancements and make recommendations for improvements. • Lead the implementation of approved network architecture and designs. • Support efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience. • Design, deploy, manage, and ensure stability of local/wide area network infrastructure technologies. • Represent the Engineering Department in designing, modeling, and implementing new technologies. • Plan, design, and execute certification testing for various firewall platforms and configurations. • Develop, run, and maintain automated testing frameworks for consistent firewall performance and security evaluations. • Analyze and document results to ensure compliance with security policies and standards. • Collaborate with security teams to validate firewall rule sets and traffic flow. • Stay updated with evolving firewall technologies and implement enhancements in testing processes. • Work with architects on the design and architecture of secure, scalable firewall solutions. • Document project requirements including scope, costs, schedule, testing, and terms of delivery to ensure project completion with high quality. • Mentor and train other Engineering personnel in key elements of networking systems. Requirements • 6+ years of data network experience. • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field or equivalent work experience. • Extensive knowledge of data networking (OSI Model, TCP/IP, Optical Transport). • Ability to work in a team environment. • Extensive knowledge of industry specifications and standards (IEEE, ANSI, Fiber, Bridging, Switching, Routing, Ethernet, Transport technologies). • Extensive knowledge in network design, architecture, protocols, and topology. • In-depth knowledge of firewall platforms (e.g., Palo Alto, Fortinet, Cisco ASA, Check Point). • Experience with security certification standards (e.g., PCI-DSS, ISO 27001, NIST). • Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) for automation in testing. • Strong analytical skills for troubleshooting and performance tuning. Nice-to-haves • Knowledge of company products and services. • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) certification. • Juniper Network Certified Specialist (JNCIS or JNCIP) certification. • Industry and vendor-specific certifications and training (Cisco, Juniper, Alcatel-Lucent).
