Student Development Coordinator

The Student Development Coordinator is responsible for developing and delivering orientation and transition programs that enhance the student experience and support students throughout their university journey. Responsibilities Leads the development, coordination, implementation, and continuous improvement of a defined portfolio of programs and services, which may include academic learning supports, orientation and transition initiatives, community service learning, and student engagement activities, events, and services Ensures cohesive and consistent delivery of programs by proactively coordinating with other areas within Student Engagement and Learning and identifying opportunities to streamline or enhance services Maintains all required certifications and ensures compliance with relevant standards, guidelines, and University policies Oversees the recruitment, selection, administration, and hiring processes for student staff, ensuring compliance with HR policies, equity-based hiring practices, and operational requirements Coordinates the design, planning, and delivery of leader training and professional development programs, including identifying training needs, organizing workshops, and ensuring training materials and logistics are effectively managed in collaboration with campus partners Serves as a key liaison between student leaders and campus partners, supporting effective communication, issue resolution, and successful coordination of events and initiatives Provides day-to-day direction and operational oversight of student staff, including scheduling, performance monitoring, coaching, and fostering ongoing leadership development Builds and sustains strong collaborative relationships with key internal stakeholders including faculties, AVP Students units, and other University departments, to advance shared goals and enhance student engagement Partners with the AVPS Communications team to plan, develop, and deliver strategic, student-focused communications aligned with institutional priorities Contributes to the design and execution of student-focused promotional strategies that raise awareness and increase participation in programs and services Coordinates data collection, reporting, and evaluation activities and develops performance measures to assess and improve the effectiveness and impact of programs, services, and operational processes Participates actively in program analysis, problem-solving, and operational decision-making by identifying issues, recommending solutions, and supporting implementation Monitors program budgets, prepares financial reports, and contributes to the development of annual budget projections and resource planning Develops, implements, and maintains procedures, guidelines, training materials, and documentation to ensure consistency, quality, and continuity of operations Leads the testing, adoption, and ongoing optimization of virtual platforms, systems, and tools, ensuring they enhance efficiency and student/user experience Represents Student Engagement and Learning on committees and working groups, contributing subject-matter insights and operational expertise Completes other duties as assigned Skills Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline Minimum of one to two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one's own Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one's own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion Experience working at a post-secondary institution with new students or orientation and transition programs preferred Experience facilitating learning programs, services, projects, and teams in a post-secondary setting Proven ability to exercise sound judgement, adjust prioritization, and apply critical thinking to work with an evolving scope Demonstrated experience in large-scale virtual and in-person event planning Demonstrated knowledge of current learning theories and the ability to utilize theoretical approaches to improve academic success for students in transition and/or at risk Demonstrated ability in the application of student development theories Proven ability to take initiative, work independently, manage multiple priorities, juggle complex tasks, and meet deadlines under pressure Experience working in cross-functional teams Excellent oral and written communication, presentation (public speaking), interpersonal, problem solving, and organizational skills Strong administrative, marketing, and public relations skills Exceptional intercultural communications skills and cross-cultural experience Displays diplomacy, tact, understanding, and adherence to confidentiality at all times Ability to work independently and cooperatively in a team environment Ability to work effectively with university staff, students, faculty, and external stakeholders Requires flexibility to work long hours with the expectation of regular evening and weekend work at key points in the program cycles Knowledge of volunteer management, human resources practices, and ethical recruitment practices an asset Proficient with a wide range of technical systems and tools as a regular function of work, including content management systems, project management software,
