The Role We are seeking a former IRS Revenue Agent or Appeals Officer to leverage their procedural expertise in a high-volume case management role. You will act as the "Strategic Quarterback" for IRS and state tax resolution matters, ensuring cases move efficiently from onboarding to final resolution. Key Responsibilities: • Client Representation: Serve as the primary representative for clients before the IRS and state taxing authorities on resolution matters, including audits, collections, liens, and levies. • End-to-End Case Management: Own the complete lifecycle of tax controversy cases, from initial file review to the final closing letter. • Strategic Execution: Work directly with the Managing Attorney to implement the strategic plan for each case. You will lead substantive deliverables, including drafting responses to Information Document Requests (IDRs), preparing Formal Written Protests for IRS Appeals, and managing Collection Due Process (CDP) filings. You will coordinate with internal and external resources to ensure all technical arguments are fully substantiated. • Deadline and Workflow Coordination: Meticulously track all case deadlines, due dates, and statutes of limitations using our case management software. You will be responsible for ensuring no detail is missed. • Client Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, providing proactive status updates, answering inquiries, and managing expectations throughout the resolution process. • Internal Team Collaboration: Act as the central point person for the case team. This includes working seamlessly with our managing attorney, tax preparers, crypto accountants, and support personnel to gather information and ensure a unified approach. • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain pristine case files and provide weekly case status reports to the Managing Attorney, highlighting progress, upcoming deadlines, and any potential bottlenecks. Qualifications and Skills: Required: • Minimum 5+ years of experience as an IRS Revenue Agent and/or, IRS Independent Office of Appeals Officer, or similar technical role. • Deep technical knowledge of the IRS administrative and appeals processes. • Proven ability to manage a high inventory of cases with impeccable attention to detail. • Strong written communication skills for drafting appeals, protests, and status reports. • Utilize tax controversy case management software. • Track and meet billable hour expectations and tracking.
