About the Role The successful candidate will be a specialist in Twentieth-Century African-American History, with a strong record of research and teaching. The Assistant Professor of History and African American Studies will teach a 2:2 load, comprising undergraduate and graduate courses in both departments, and supervise graduate students in History. The tenure-granting department will be History, with teaching duties split between History and African-American Studies. Key Responsibilities Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in History and African-American Studies, developing innovative and inclusive curricula. Supervise graduate students in History, providing guidance on research and thesis development. Conduct original research in Twentieth-Century African-American History, publishing in top-tier academic journals and presenting at conferences. Contribute to the university's commitment to diversity and inclusion, participating in initiatives and programs that promote multicultural competence. Engage in service to the department, college, and university, taking on leadership roles as appropriate. Essential Qualifications To be considered, applicants must: Hold a Ph.D. in History or a related interdisciplinary field by August 2024, or be ABD with expectations of degree completion prior to the start of the appointment. Demonstrate a strong record of research and teaching in Twentieth-Century African-American History. Show a commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive academic community.
