Transportation Planner I
About the position AECOM Technical Services, Inc., is seeking a Transportation Planner I in Arlington, VA. The role involves adjusting and applying travel demand models to forecast future-year travel demand, particularly focusing on forecasting intercity passenger rail ridership. Responsibilities include intercity travel demand model design, development, calibration, and application, maintaining and applying the AECOM national intercity model, and designing travel surveys. The position also requires collecting and processing data for models, performing project evaluations, summarizing forecasted results, and supporting project management in executing task orders. Responsibilities • Adjust and apply travel demand models to forecast future-year travel demand, particularly with a focus on forecasting intercity passenger rail ridership. • Intercity travel demand model design, development, calibration, and application, including maintaining, updating, and applying the AECOM national intercity model. • Travel survey design, sampling plan development, processing, and analysis including household travel surveys, transit on-board surveys, focus groups, stated preference surveys, and other specialized survey types. • Collect and process data for the models and set up, run, and troubleshoot models. • Perform project evaluation for Alternatives Analysis/DEIS and major investment studies. • Summarize and document forecasted results. • Process and analyze various data, including inputs to travel demand models and information about travel markets. • Support project management and task leaders in executing task orders, completing technical work, and meeting project milestones for ongoing assignments. • May telecommute. Requirements • Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering or related field. • Travel demand modeling concepts. • Analyzing travel survey data. • Analyzing demographic data, such as population data from the Census Bureau. • Creating maps and doing geospatial analysis using Geographic Information System (GIS) software such as ArcGIS/ArcMap or QGIS. • Python programming. • Data analysis using a programming language (Python or R) and interactive visualization tools (Power BI or Tableau).
