UI/UX Designer – Gamified Consumer Experience & Interaction Design

Remote, USA Full-time
About Make it Free: Make it Free is redefining how consumers interact with digital content and creating a personalized experience with our brand partners. Our mission is to create a frictionless, accessible, and unexpectedly fun experience—one that feels more like playing than using a website. We’re building a first-of-its-kind gamified ecosystem where engagement, delight, and clarity drive every interaction. We’re seeking a UI/UX Designer who blends interaction design expertise with an understanding of gaming principles to help us bring this next-generation experience to life. Role Overview: In this role, you’ll design the visual and interactive foundation of Make it Free’s gamified consumer experience—including reward systems, progress loops, playful UI states, and interactive elements that encourage engagement and exploration. You will not be designing a traditional game; you’ll be creating a consumer experience that feels as engaging, intuitive, and delightful as one. Your work will be central to how users understand progress, earn rewards, explore features, and stay motivated within the platform. Please note this is a contract position—estimated 40 hours / week for the duration of the project. Qualifications: · 3–5+ years of UI/UX design experience in digital products, mobile web, interactive applications, or gaming interfaces. · Ability to design gamified systems such as rewards, progress indicators, onboarding journeys, and interaction feedback. · Strong portfolio showcasing thoughtful interaction design and visually refined user interfaces. Please provide previous work examples or portfolio links at the time of submission. · Proficiency in design tools like Figma, Adobe XD, Photoshop, Illustrator, or similar. · Strong understanding of UX best practices, behavioral psychology, and motivational design. · Data-driven mindset—comfortable interpreting metrics, running A/B tests, using analytics platforms, and turning insights into actionable design improvements. · Experience working cross-functionally in fast-moving, iterative environments. What You’ll Do: · Design intuitive, playful, and engaging mobile web-based UI systems that bring gamification concepts to life (progression, achievements, missions, rewards, feedback loops, etc.). · Build wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs that communicate complex systems through clarity and fun. · Translate game-inspired mechanics into simple, frictionless user flows anyone can understand. · Develop and maintain Make it Free’s visual identity and UI style guide, ensuring consistent, user-first design. · Collaborate with product, engineering, and strategy teams to ensure interactions feel responsive, smooth, and rewarding. · Participate in user testing to validate concepts, refine engagement loops, and continuously improve the experience. · Use data and behavioral insights to evaluate design performance, inform decisions, validate hypotheses, and optimize user engagement. · Innovate on new ways to make everyday consumer actions feel delightful, rewarding, and intrinsically motivating. · Incorporate accessibility principles to ensure the experience is enjoyable and usable for all. Bonus Points For: · Background in game UI, mobile game design, or casual game mechanics. · Experience designing motion, transitions, or micro-interactions that enhance user delight. · Familiarity with engagement loops, retention mechanics, or consumer gamification strategies. · Ability to collaborate on the conceptualization of a new, unconventional experience category. Who Thrives Here: · Designers who love to experiment and push boundaries. · People who think like game designers but design like product experts. · Teammates who believe that even everyday actions can feel rewarding when designed well. · Those who value clarity, simplicity, and polish—without sacrificing playfulness. · Individuals who are curious, analytical, and comfortable letting data guide improvements while still exercising strong creative intuition.
