Job title: Organizational Development Specialist Company: University of Southern California Job description: Job Summary The Organizational Development (OD) Specialist is responsible for organizational design efforts across the university and operates in a consulting capacity. Partnering with HR Partners, this role both identifies inefficiencies and redundancies in the organization and redesigns processes and structures to address those gaps. The OD Specialist enables organizational growth and development for units across the university, while also maintaining connection points with university-wide organizational goals. An ideal candidate for this role will be open, investigative, and analytical. This role will help enable USC’s vision while promoting USC’s culture and values. Minimum Qualifications The candidate for the position of Organizational Development (OD) Specialist must meet the following qualifications: Bachelor's degree in business, industrial-organizational psychology, organizational development or another related field. Five or more years of experience in one or more of the following fields: human resource, organizational design, or change management. Experience directing the current state assessment and redesign of multi-functional organizations. Knowledge of organizational design and implementation leading practices. Experience deploying projects or programs focused on driving change and organizational effectiveness. Experience using change management methodologies/models to implement organization change initiatives. Knowledge of core learning and organizational development principles and leading practices in driving knowledge transfer and change. Experience in a business services enterprise. Strong written and verbal communications skills, with demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with senior leadership. Excellent people skills, situational awareness, and relationship-building abilities. Demonstrated data-driven mindset and instinct for extracting insights from metrics for informed decision-making. Ability to manage significant and competing project responsibilities with tight deadlines. Ability to exercise discretion with confidential information. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Preferred Qualifications The ideal candidate for the position of Organizational Development (OD) Specialist has the following qualifications: Advanced degree in business, industrial-organizational psychology, organizational development, or another related field. Seven or more years of experience in one or more of the following fields: human resource, organizational design, or change management. Experience in higher education. Experience in an industry or consulting team-oriented environment in corporate operations, management, and/or human resources-related fields. Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP), Organization Development Certified Professional Program (ODCP), Society for Human Resource Management Certified Professional/Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP), Professional in Human Resources/Senior Professional in Human Resources (PHR/SPHR) or other similar certifications. Job Responsibilities The candidate for the position of Organizational Development (OD) Specialist will be responsible for: Designing and developing key organizational effectiveness, projects, programs, policies and processes across the university. Developing definitions of desired individual and group performance and organizational design. Developing and managing the implementation of organizational effectiveness interventions including current state assessments and organizational design. Developing methods of measuring how performance management aligns with organizational goals. Facilitating in-person and virtual workshops across the university as needed. Closely working with and advising internal clients. Completing organizational assessments using holistic methods to uncover organizational inefficiencies and recommend solutions and growth opportunities. Providing strategic analyses, advice, and education to clients on how to recover from change impacts and alignment of organizational development initiatives with strategic goals. Teaming with stakeholders throughout the organizational development process, gathering and incorporating their feedback throughout the process. Tailoring current state assessments to units and identifying opportunities and trends from assessments. Conveying assessment findings and conclusions to the client organization in easily understandable terms, such as through storytelling or data visualization techniques. Constantly looking to build the university’s ability to continually assess its current functioning and to modify processes and behaviors to achieve its goals. Maintaining currency of organizational development leading trends and techniques. Establishing open relationships and channels for teams, end users, and stakeholders to provide feedback and identify opportunities to improve. Working with stakeholders to scope out identified organizational problems. Designing assessments to methodically diagnose the current state of the organization. Identifying skillset gaps in the organization and making recommendations to upskill and/or recruit for gaps. Demonstrating acuity and objectivity in evaluating obtained data to arrive at conclusions. Harnessing commitment to USC’s strong cultural attributes to develop sustainable change initiatives, understanding that a culture-led approach drives lasting change. The university reserves the right to add or change duties at any time. The annual base salary range for this position is $65,775.51- $84,965.
