Alignment Associate

Remote, USA Full-time
The Role As an Alignment Associate, you will bridge the gap between complex litigation workflows and advanced AI development. You will act as the "legal brain" in the loop, evaluating our platform’s outputs to ensure they align with how seasoned attorneys actually practice law. This is not a traditional legal role; it is a high-velocity role for a lawyer who wants to move into technology. You will work directly with our engineering team to calibrate our models, ensuring that the tone, structure, and substantive analysis of our drafting and review tools continue to meet the expectations of a demanding client base. What You Will Do • Legal Alignment & Quality Assurance: Evaluate AI-generated legal drafts (briefs, memos, discovery requests) to ensure they match the stylistic and substantive standards of U.S. litigation. • Workflow Simulation: Test the platform by simulating real-world litigation scenarios—from initial case assessment to rapid document review—identifying areas where the workflow can be smoothed or improved for practicing lawyers. • Engineering Feedback Loop: Translate "lawyer logic" into actionable feedback for our technical team (e.g., explaining why a specific phrasing is legally risky or stylistically poor). • Gold-Standard Data Creation: Assist in creating high-quality legal datasets and responses that serve as the benchmark for our system. • Subject Matter Expertise: Serve as the internal voice of the customer, advising on the nuances of civil procedure, privilege logging, and document review protocols. Who You Are • Licensed Attorney: You possess a J.D. and are an active member in good standing of at least one U.S. State Bar. • Litigation Experience: You have prior experience as a Litigation Associate or Staff Attorney handling complex commercial cases OR significant substantive experience in high-level document review/discovery management. • Detail-Obsessed: You have the editorial eye of a litigation attorney. You spot formatting inconsistencies, tonal shifts, hot docs, and Bluebook errors instinctively. • Tech-Curious: You don't need to code, but you must be excited about AI and comfortable learning new technology quickly. • Startup Mindset: You thrive in a fast-paced, unstructured environment where priorities can shift rapidly. You are proactive and flexible. Logistics • Timezone: While this role can be remote, you must be available during Pacific Standard Time (PST) business hours to collaborate synchronously with our team in California. • Environment: High-growth, high-velocity startup environment. About Advocacy Advocacy is a well-funded AI litigation platform built for the next generation of law firms. Founded by a team of former Big Law litigators and engineering leaders from Meta and Dropbox, we are building the future of legal workflow automation. We are integrating advanced AI directly into the high-stakes environment of litigation-focused law firms. We are looking for a licensed attorney to join our team to ensure our platform meets the rigorous standards of the legal profession as we continue to scale. Apply tot his job
