As a College Counselor at MP College Counseling, you will work directly with motivated students and families, providing: • Guidance on building strong academic profiles, extracurricular résumés, and activity lists to create compelling applications. • Comprehensive support in developing balanced, strategic college lists tailored to each student's goals, strengths, and fit. • In-depth essay coaching, including brainstorming ideas, multiple rounds of editing, and deadline management for personal statements and supplements. Training & Role Overview We welcome experienced counselors and provide thorough onboarding and ongoing support. You will be paired with a Lead Counselor for mentorship whenever needed. In this role, you will: • Work independently with students via one-on-one Zoom sessions and asynchronous essay editing. • Lead all aspects of your assigned students' journeys, from course planning and college list development to application strategy, essay guidance, interview prep, and deadline oversight. A strong foundation in writing, brainstorming, and editing is essential, as students often apply to 20–30 schools and craft 60+ essays. Key Details • Position Type: Part-time, 1099 independent contractor. • Schedule: Fully remote and flexible; availability required evenings and weekends to accommodate high school students across U.S. time zones. • Workload: 10–25 hours per week, varying by season (busiest October–January, including holidays; lighter in spring/early summer). • Commitment: Minimum of 10 students for new counselors. • Restrictions: Candidates cannot be employed with direct competitors. All contractors sign a standard non-compete agreement. • Additional Knowledge: Familiarity with pre-med tracks and direct medical programs (BS/MD and BS/DO pathways), as well as Ivy League and top programs, is a plus but not required. Responsibilities • Assist students with 4-year high school course planning. • Advise on academic profile enhancement and résumé/activity list development. • Create personalized, balanced college lists. • Provide extensive essay support (brainstorming, outlining, editing personal statements, and supplements). • Guide use of application platforms (Common App, Coalition, UC, CUNY, SUNY, etc.). • Prepare students for interviews. • Manage deadlines and communicate promptly with students and families via email. Minimum Requirements • Bachelor’s degree required (advanced degree preferred). • At least 5 years of professional experience in college admissions counseling or school/college counseling, working hands-on with students on all elements of the application process. • Proven expertise in writing coaching, brainstorming, and essay editing. • Tech-savvy with Google Docs, Google Drive, and Zoom. • Flexible availability for evenings, weekends, and peak holiday periods. • Ability to commit 10+ hours/week in quieter seasons and up to 25 hours/week during peak admissions cycles. • Additional Knowledge: Familiarity with pre-med tracks and direct medical programs (BS/MD and BS/DO pathways), as well as Ivy League and top programs, is a plus but not required. Selection Process • Submit proof of education and two professional references. • Provide writing samples (e.g., before/after essay edits, recommendation letters, blog posts, or articles) and complete a practical essay editing assessment. • Participate in a core competency interview.
