Job Description Join the MP College Counseling Team MP College Counseling is a respected leader in the college counseling industry, guiding high school students through the complexities of the college admissions process with personalized, ethical, and expert support. As a College Counselor at MP College Counseling, you will work directly with motivated students and families, providing: • Guidance on building strong academic profiles, extracurricular résumés, and activity lists to create compelling applications. • Comprehensive support in developing balanced, strategic college lists tailored to each student's goals, strengths, and fit. • In-depth essay coaching, including brainstorming ideas, multiple rounds of editing, and deadline management for personal statements and supplements. Our team is dedicated to empowering students to achieve their higher-education goals in a collaborative environment built on transparency, flexibility, kindness, and mutual support. We go the extra mile for our clients and each other. If you are an experienced counselor passionate about the admissions process, helping students discover their best paths, and making a real difference in young lives, this could be an ideal opportunity to join a supportive, mission-driven team. Training & Role Overview We welcome experienced counselors and provide thorough onboarding and ongoing support. You will be paired with a Lead Counselor for mentorship whenever needed. In this role, you will: • Work independently with students via one-on-one Zoom sessions and asynchronous essay editing. • Lead all aspects of your assigned students' journeys, from course planning and college list development to application strategy, essay guidance, interview prep, and deadline oversight. A strong foundation in writing, brainstorming, and editing is essential, as students often apply to 20–30 schools and craft 60+ essays. Key Details • Position Type: Part-time, 1099 independent contractor. • Schedule: Fully remote and flexible; availability required evenings and weekends to accommodate high school students across U.S. time zones. • Workload: 10–25 hours per week, varying by season (busiest October–January, including holidays; lighter in spring/early summer). • Commitment: Minimum of 10 students for new counselors. • Restrictions: Candidates cannot be employed with direct competitors. All contractors sign a standard non-compete agreement. • Additional Knowledge: Familiarity with pre-med tracks and direct medical programs (BS/MD and BS/DO pathways), as well as Ivy League and top programs, is a plus but not required. Responsibilities • Assist students with 4-year high school course planning. • Advise on academic profile enhancement and résumé/activity list development. • Create personalized, balanced college lists. • Provide extensive essay support (brainstorming, outlining, editing personal statements, and supplements). • Guide use of application platforms (Common App, Coalition, UC, CUNY, SUNY, etc.). • Prepare students for interviews. • Manage deadlines and communicate promptly with students and families via email. Minimum Requirements • Bachelor’s degree required (advanced degree preferred). • At least 5 years of professional experience in college admissions counseling or school/college counseling, working hands-on with students on all elements of the application process. • Proven expertise in writing coaching, brainstorming, and essay editing. • Tech-savvy with Google Docs, Google Drive, and Zoom. • Flexible availability for evenings, weekends, and peak holiday periods. • Ability to commit 10+ hours/week in quieter seasons and up to 25 hours/week during peak admissions cycles. • Additional Knowledge: Familiarity with pre-med tracks and direct medical programs (BS/MD and BS/DO pathways), as well as Ivy League and top programs, is a plus but not required. Selection Process • Submit proof of education and two professional references. • Provide writing samples (e.g., before/after essay edits, recommendation letters, blog posts, or articles) and complete a practical essay editing assessment. • Participate in a core competency interview. Why Join Us? This role allows you to have a meaningful impact on students' futures while working remotely with a collaborative, ethical team that values work-life balance and professional growth. If you thrive on supporting ambitious students through the admissions journey and enjoy a flexible, supportive environment, we’d love to hear from you.
