Common Metadata Repository - Application Administrator

Position Overview We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Administrator to manage and support Common Metadata Repository (CMR) application, a high-performance metadata system that catalogs, searches, and distributes Earth science data across NOAA's Earth Observing Systems. The Administrator will ensure the CMR application operates with reliability, security, and efficiency, while supporting data providers, researchers, and NOAA stakeholders in advancing mission-critical science and discovery. Duties • Administer, configure, and maintain the CMR system for high availability, scalability, and performance. • Monitor system health, troubleshoot technical issues, and implement corrective actions in coordination with engineering teams. • Manage application upgrades, patches, and enhancements in compliance with NOAA IT standards. • Create and maintain user accounts, roles, and permissions for internal and external stakeholders. • Provide end-user training, documentation, and technical support to improve system adoption and effectiveness. • Ensure proper data access policies are enforced across the CMR ecosystem. • Support ingestion, validation, and maintenance of metadata records for Earth science datasets. • Ensure consistency, accuracy, and discoverability of metadata across data centers. • Maintain audit trails, version control, and compliance with NOAA metadata standards. • Develop dashboards, queries, and reports to support NOAA science missions and user communities. • Identify and recommend process improvements to streamline metadata management workflows. • Collaborate with data providers, developers, and NOAA program managers to align the repository with evolving mission and science requirements. Experience • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Earth Science Informatics, or related field (or equivalent experience). • 5+ years of experience administering large-scale data, metadata, or repository systems. • Familiarity with metadata standards (e.g., ISO 19115, UMM, FGDC, Dublin Core, DIF, ECHO). • Strong understanding of application administration, security, and user access management. • Experience with databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, Oracle), APIs, and search technologies (e.g., Elasticsearch, Solr). • Knowledge of federal IT compliance frameworks (e.g., NIST, FISMA). Preferred Experience: • Prior experience with NASA Earth science data systems, particularly EOSDIS or CMR. • Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS preferred) and containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes). • Scripting and automation experience (Python, Bash, or similar). • IT certifications (e.g., Security+, AWS SysOps, or equivalent). Qualifications • Bachelors Degree in computer science or similar • At least 5 years of experience in the metadata management related work • US Citizenship is required • Good communication skills • CMR experience is MUST Job Types: Full-time, Permanent Pay: $84,506.26 - $155,770.98 per year Work Location: Remote Apply tot his job
