Compliance Manager (Remote from North Carolina)
About the position We are seeking an experienced Compliance Manager to oversee and strengthen regulatory and quality assurance processes within a high-volume manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for ensuring materials, products, and packaging meet all domestic and international regulatory requirements while supporting cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate combines technical expertise with leadership skills, proactively manages compliance programs, and drives continuous improvement initiatives. You will play a key role in maintaining certifications, managing supplier performance, and providing guidance on food safety, labeling, and regulatory matters. This is a hands-on position with significant impact on operational efficiency, product quality, and consumer safety. Responsibilities • Lead compliance programs across all manufacturing and packaging processes, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards and internal policies. • Manage material sampling, monitoring programs, and specifications to maintain product safety and quality. • Oversee labeling, claims, and ingredient verification processes, including artwork creation and maintenance. • Maintain supplier quality programs, including vendor approval, performance management, SCAR investigations, and reporting. • Ensure compliance with certifications such as SQF, GFSI, cGMP, Kosher, Halal, Organic, Non-GMO, Gluten-Free, and Identity Preserved. • Support internal teams, including Sales, Legal, and International Quality, with regulatory guidance, technical inquiries, and program knowledge. • Conduct mock recalls, traceability exercises, and maintain databases and documentation to ensure readiness for audits and inspections. Requirements • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Biology, or a related field. • Minimum of 5 years of experience in food manufacturing or regulatory compliance. • Strong knowledge of current good manufacturing practices (cGMP), FSMA requirements, and food labeling regulations. • Prior experience managing specifications, claims, and supplier compliance programs. • Demonstrated leadership and team management skills. • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; strong attention to detail. • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and compliance-related software. • Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and navigate cross-functional collaboration. Nice-to-haves • SQF Practitioner certification and process improvement experience (e.g., Six Sigma) preferred.
