Hybrid ETL + Backend + Front End + Product Ownership ParcelLogix is hiring a Data Platform Engineer who can work across data pipelines, backend automation, SQL Server, SSIS, BigQuery, and our client-facing portal. The role combines ETL work, internal tooling, light front-end engineering, and product-level thinking. The priority is to stabilize and simplify a mixed SQL Server and BigQuery environment, then drive the next generation of the platform. This is a broad role for someone who likes ownership, practical engineering, and shaping a real product used by enterprise clients. About ParcelLogix ParcelLogix helps enterprise shippers reduce parcel spend through invoice audit, contract optimization, and analytics. Parcellytics converts large, inconsistent UPS, FedEx, USPS, and regional carrier invoice data into reliable models used for billing accuracy, contract compliance, and cost decisions. Clients include major CPG companies, automotive suppliers, and global consulting firms. Where This Role Is Going Initially, the role should focus on refactoring contractor-built pipelines, tuning SQL Server, improving ETL workflows, and clarifying architecture. Once the foundation is reliable, the role shifts toward redesigning core parts of Parcellytics and building for the future. You will be responsible for: • Designing the next version of the Parcellytics ingestion pipeline • Building a unified onboarding and file routing system • Improving the portal with operational views, metadata, and file-level transparency • Automating manual audit workflows into predictable services • Building a rules engine that interprets complex carrier contract logic • Evolving the SQL Server and BigQuery split into a coherent architecture • Extending APIs and internal tools that support future scale What You Will Work On Day to Day Data and ETL • Maintain and improve SQL Server workflows used for weekly invoice ingestion • Build and update SSIS packages, stored procedures, and Agent jobs • Tune SQL Server queries, indexes, and ETL performance • Build Python automation for QA checks, API calls, and monitoring • Publish cleaned datasets into BigQuery for BI reporting (Sigma) Backend and Internal Systems • Refactor code from previous contractors into simpler, maintainable modules • Strengthen error handling, logging, and operational visibility • Support integrations with UPS and FedEx APIs for invoicing, tracking, metadata • Build internal tools that support onboarding and exception handling Front End and Portal • Contribute to client portal features in a modern JavaScript framework (React preferred) • Build UI elements that surface workflow status, errors, and contract-driven metrics • Integrate with Sigma dashboards and improve user-facing views Product and Architecture • Translate business logic (contract rules, accessorials, billing terms) into technical models • Provide input on platform strategy, architectural tradeoffs, and roadmap • Work with leadership to define and sequence improvement projects • Move the platform toward a modular, maintainable, cloud-forward design What You Need • 3 to 5 plus years in data engineering, backend engineering, or full-stack roles • Strong SQL Server skills: indexes, tuning, SSIS, ETL workflows • Python experience for automation and APIs • Experience with cloud data warehouses (BigQuery preferred) • Front-end experience with React or similar framework • Ability to refactor existing systems, not only build new • Clear communication and early alignment • Interest in shaping product behavior through data and workflows • Preference for practical solutions with clear tradeoffs This is Important! Our entire audit and pricing platform depends on accurate, consistent carrier data. Every savings calculation, contract model, KPI, and dashboard starts with how well we ingest and standardize invoice files. When the pipeline is reliable, we catch billing errors, validate contract rules, and deliver insights clients use to make large financial decisions. This role ensures that the foundation works every time while driving toward better insights delivered to clients. Why Join Us • Broad scope across ETL, backend, front-end, and product • Direct influence on architecture and roadmap • Flexible remote environment • Real product with real users and measurable financial impact • Clear path to technical leadership Work Authorization Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States now and in the future.
