Job Summary As an Academic Advisor I - Graduate, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive academic advisement to graduate students, processing graduate student admissions, and offering professional guidance to supplement and enhance the academic experience. You will work closely with faculty advisors, program coordinators, and other university staff to ensure students receive the support they need to succeed. This role requires a strong understanding of academic programs, policies, and procedures, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Key Responsibilities • Provide complete and accurate academic advisement to current and prospective graduate students, including guidance on degree requirements, course selection, and career goals • Process graduate student admissions, maintaining accurate records and communicating with students and faculty as needed • Monitor the academic progress of a student caseload, providing proactive outreach and support to ensure timely student progression • Work with faculty advisors and program coordinators to ensure students receive a Program of Work and enroll in the correct classes for their degree or certificate • Analyze and interpret student data, transcripts, and placement results to inform advising decisions • Enter advising notes into the university's student information system, following best practices for documenting student appointments and contacts • Prepare for and document appointments, answer emails, complete degree audits, and process add/drop forms as needed • Maintain a clear understanding of all applicable federal, state, and university policies and procedures, staying up-to-date on relevant academic programs and support services • Represent the College of Education at events on campus, assisting with planning and staffing events as needed Essential Qualifications To be considered for this role, you must have: • A Bachelor's degree in a related field, such as education, counseling, or a related field • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with students, faculty, and staff • Experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) Preferred Qualifications Preferred candidates will have: • A Master's degree in a related field, with one year of experience working with college students or adolescents in an advising capacity • Accuracy in evaluating and articulating information on students to faculty and administrators, and in interpreting institutional rules and regulations • Experience in admissions and/or recruitment of college/university students • Knowledge of Texas Education Agency (TEA) policy Skills and Competencies To succeed in this role, you will need: • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and make informed decisions • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities • A strong understanding of academic programs, policies, and procedures, with the ability to stay up-to-date on relevant information • A commitment to providing excellent customer service, with a focus on supporting student success and retention Career Growth Opportunities and Learning Benefits As an Academic Advisor I - Graduate at The University of Texas at Arlington, you will have access to a range of career growth opportunities and learning benefits, including: • Professional development opportunities, such as training and workshops on academic advising, student success, and retention • Mentorship and coaching from experienced advisors and faculty members • Opportunities to participate in university-wide initiatives and committees, such as student success and retention efforts • A supportive and collaborative work environment, with a focus on teamwork and mutual respect Work Environment and Company Culture The University of Texas at Arlington is committed to providing a supportive and inclusive work environment, with a focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion.
