We're seeking a highly skilled and experienced AI Researcher to join our interdisciplinary team of experts in tackling complex sociotechnical challenges. About the Role As an AI Researcher, you'll play a crucial role in fostering core assets and tooling, collaborating with Microsoft product teams to drive proactive responsible AI practices, and contributing to or leading research projects that advance the state-of-the-art. You'll be working at the intersection of generative AI (e.g., large-scale language models like GPT-4 and multimodal models like DALL-E) and responsible AI, trust, and safety. Key Responsibilities Be an integral part of an interdisciplinary team of world experts on the fairness of AI systems, driving research and development of core assets and tooling. Develop and utilize techniques to identify, measure, and mitigate potential harms caused by generative AI systems, working closely with Microsoft product teams. Monitor research advances and apply them to shape your applied science work, contributing to or driving research projects that push the boundaries of responsible AI. Master new skills and apply them as needed, staying up-to-date with the latest developments in the field. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement responsible AI practices that are tailored to various systems, use cases, and deployment settings. Essential Qualifications To be considered for this role, you must have: A Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or a related field, with 4+ years of relevant experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analysis, research). Or a Graduate degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or a related field, with 3+ years of relevant experience. Or a Doctorate in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or a related field, with 1+ year of relevant experience. Or equivalent experience in a related field. Experience putting responsible AI principles (e.g., fairness, transparency) into practice. Proficiency in coding with a general-purpose programming language (e.g., Python, Java, Scala, C#, or C/C++). Preferred Qualifications To stand out as a candidate, you'll ideally have: A Graduate degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or a related field, with relevant experience. Or a Doctorate in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or a related field, with 3+ years of relevant experience. Experience working with large-scale language models and multimodal models. A strong passion for focusing on diversity, inclusion, and fairness in AI development. Skills and Competencies To succeed in this role, you'll need to possess: Strong technical skills in AI research and development. Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
