Job Overview We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Classified Tutor - Douglass to join our team at Douglass Elementary. As a Classified Tutor, you will play a vital role in supporting classroom teachers and students, providing individualized and small group instruction to enhance student learning and academic achievement. Key Responsibilities Provide tutoring practice to students as assigned by teachers, focusing on Tier 2 and Tier 3 support in literacy, including additional practice and reinforcement of skills already taught in Tier 1 instruction Support classroom teachers in implementing instructional programs and activities to meet the diverse needs of students Report regularly to the principal and classroom teachers on student progress and provide feedback to inform instruction Attend all building staff development and district workshops with teachers to stay current on best practices and district initiatives Implement instruction using district standards, benchmarks, and indicators, applying basic learning concepts to support student learning Maintain communication with school personnel, parents/guardians, and students to enhance cooperative action and meet the educational needs of students Utilize existing technology effectively in the performance of duties, including digital tools and platforms to support instruction and communication Essential Qualifications To be considered for this role, you must have: A high school diploma or a GED certificate Completed 48 hours at an institution of higher education OR obtained an associate's (or higher) degree OR passed a State-approved assessment (such as Workkeys, ParaPro, or Para Educator) Job-related experience preferred, with a strong understanding of instructional support and student learning Preferred Qualifications While not required, the following qualifications are highly desirable: Experience working in an educational setting, particularly in a support role Knowledge of district standards, benchmarks, and indicators, as well as instructional strategies and techniques Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, teachers, parents, and other stakeholders Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs and student learning Skills and Competencies To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate the following skills and competencies: Strong instructional support skills, with the ability to provide individualized and small group instruction Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities Career Growth Opportunities and Learning Benefits At Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools, we are committed to supporting the professional growth and development of our employees.
