About the Role As a PE/Health Teacher - Long Term Sub, you will be responsible for creating a flexible and engaging program that promotes learning, personal growth, and development. You will establish effective relationships with students, motivate them to develop essential skills, attitudes, and knowledge, and provide a supportive and inclusive classroom environment. Your expertise and passion for physical education and health will inspire our students to adopt healthy lifestyles, develop teamwork and communication skills, and build confidence in their abilities. Key Responsibilities: Develop and implement a comprehensive physical education and health curriculum that aligns with the Michigan State Standards and meets the needs of diverse learners Establish a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes social, emotional, and physical development Use data and assessment results to inform instruction and improve student learning outcomes Collaborate with colleagues to evaluate and assess curriculum, participate in staff meetings and committees, and contribute to the development of school-wide initiatives Communicate effectively with students, parents, and guardians to ensure that all stakeholders are informed and engaged in the educational process Supervise students during activities, ensure their safety and well-being, and maintain a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom Prepare course objectives, outlines, and assessments, and administer tests to evaluate pupil progress Integrate technology into instruction to enhance student learning and engagement Essential Qualifications: To be successful in this role, you will need to possess a valid Michigan Secondary Teaching Certificate with a Health and Physical Education Endorsement, as well as a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. You should have experience and/or training in teaching the Michigan State Standards, using technology in the educational setting, and working with English Learners and high school students. A strong understanding of Sheltered Instruction, Multi-tiered Systems of Support, and Professional Learning Communities is also essential. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in teaching physical education and health at the high school level Knowledge of the 5D instructional framework for Teaching and Learning and the Gradual Release Model Ability to use data and assessment results to inform instruction and improve student learning outcomes Experience with integrating technology into instruction and using digital tools to enhance student learning Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, parents, and colleagues Skills and Competencies: To excel in this role, you will need to possess a range of skills and competencies, including: Strong knowledge of physical education and health concepts, principles, and practices Ability to design and deliver engaging and effective lessons that meet the needs of diverse learners Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, parents, and colleagues Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities Ability to use technology to enhance student learning and engagement, including digital tools and software Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to use data and assessment results to inform instruction and improve student learning outcomes Career Growth Opportunities and Learning Benefits: At Rockford Public Schools, we are committed to supporting the ongoing learning and development of our staff.
