About the Role: Distributed Systems Engineer We are seeking highly skilled and experienced Distributed Systems Engineers to join our team. As a Distributed Systems Engineer at Netflix, you will play a crucial role in building, operating, and maintaining our cloud infrastructure. This includes compute, network, and storage services that are the core building blocks for our developers to create game-changing applications. Your expertise will directly impact the performance, stability, and user experience of our platform, which entertains hundreds of millions of customers worldwide. Key Responsibilities Design, develop, and operate highly reliable distributed systems in a cloud environment, focusing on scalability, security, and efficiency. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business needs and develop high-quality solutions that meet those needs at scale. Communicate directly with technical end-users to understand their needs, improve their experience, and provide support. Participate in the development of services, APIs, and tools for various use cases, balancing action bias with informed decision-making. Contribute to the improvement of network infrastructure, focusing on reliability, availability, scalability, security, and observability. Work on compute platforms that enable innovative experiences for members and content creators, ensuring these platforms are scalable, reliable, secure, agile, and efficient. Engage with storage products and services that provide global performance, security, and central management, enabling efficient data movement, storage, and archiving in the cloud. Essential Qualifications To be successful in this role, you should have: A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field. Recent and experienced hands-on experience with programming languages such as Java, C++, Go, Python, etc. Proven experience in building and operating highly reliable distributed systems in a cloud environment. A passion for technology, pragmatic thinking, and the ability to navigate ambiguous territories and break down complex problems. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate directly with technical end-users and cross-functional teams. A self-directed and independent approach to work, with the ability to thrive in ambiguity and drive development forward. Preferred Qualifications While not required, the following qualifications are highly desirable: Advanced degrees in Computer Science or related fields. Experience with cloud services such as AWS. Knowledge of containerization (e.g., Docker) and orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes). Familiarity with agile development methodologies and version control systems (e.g., Git). Experience with monitoring, logging, and security tools.
