About the Role We are seeking highly skilled Distributed Systems Engineers to join our Data Platform team, focusing on developing and enhancing our infrastructure as we strive towards our ambitious objective of reaching 500 million individuals worldwide. As a Distributed Systems Engineer at arenaflex, you will play a crucial role in building a world-class data infrastructure, enabling our teams to make data-driven decisions efficiently, securely, and effectively. Focus Areas in Data Infrastructure Groups Our Data Infrastructure groups are the backbone of our operations, and we have several focus areas, including: Database Access Platform : Building and operating a flexible query gateway that facilitates data reflections to work at sub-millisecond latencies, enabling our microservices to store, consume, and manage their data more effectively. Data Platform Infrastructure : Acting as a platform for our internal data platforms, providing a common framework and tooling that enables arenaflex to rapidly innovate and deliver cutting-edge data and analytics systems without building customized platforms for each new system. Big Data Compute : Responsible for providing the cloud-native platform for distributed data processing at arenaflex, offering support for Flash, ETL data into the Petabytes-scale data warehouse, and accessing that data using Flash and Voila/TrinoDB. Big Data Orchestration : Providing the platform for planning, organizing, and executing big data jobs and workflows in a self-serve way, including critical services that have all ETL and ML responsibilities running on Big Data Systems at arenaflex. Key Responsibilities As a Distributed Systems Engineer at arenaflex, your key responsibilities will include: Designing, building, and enhancing our distributed systems infrastructure to support our growing global user base. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including engineers, product managers, and TPMs, to drive business outcomes and deliver high-quality solutions. Developing and maintaining large-scale distributed systems features or applications, with a focus on scalability, reliability, and performance. Contributing to the open-source community and sharing our experiences to drive innovation and improvement. Participating in the design and development of soothing web services, with expertise in Java or other object-oriented programming languages. Working with multi-threading and distributed systems, with a strong understanding of the challenges and opportunities in these areas. Essential Qualifications To be successful in this role, you will need: 2+ years of experience in building large-scale distributed systems features or applications. A BS in Computer Science or a related field. Expertise in the design and development of soothing web services, with proficiency in Java or other object-oriented programming languages. Experience in building and operating scalable, fault-tolerant, distributed systems. Strong understanding of multi-threading and distributed systems, with the ability to handle complex challenges in these areas. Preferred Qualifications While not essential, the following qualifications are highly desirable: Experience with cloud-native technologies and distributed data processing platforms. Knowledge of open-source technologies and contributions to the open-source community. Experience with event-driven and smart scheduling systems.
