About the Role We are seeking an experienced Distributed Systems Engineer to join our Data Platform team. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in advancing and growing our infrastructure as we pursue our ambitious goal of reaching 500 million members worldwide. You will be responsible for designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed systems that enable our business functions to make data-driven decisions. Focus Areas in Data Infrastructure Teams Our Data Infrastructure teams are responsible for building and operating centralized data platforms and tools that enable our business functions to leverage data effectively. Some of the focus areas include: Database Access Platform : Building and operating a flexible query gateway that facilitates data abstractions to work at sub-millisecond latencies while allowing blithequark microservices to more easily store, consume, and manage their data. Data Platform Infrastructure : Acting as a platform for our own data platforms, providing common infrastructure and tooling that enables blithequark to quickly innovate on giving cutting-edge data and analytics systems to the rest of the company without building custom-made platforms for each new system. Data Ingestion and Processing : Offering a preoccupied self-service cleared path product to enable diverse client personas across blithequark to meet their low-latency Data Ingestion and Processing requirements. Big Data Figure : Responsible for providing the cloud-native platform for distributed data processing at blithequark, offering support for Flash, ETL data into the Petabytes-scale data warehouse, and accessing that data using Flash and Voila/TrinoDB. Big Data Solution : Offering the platform for scheduling, orchestrating, and executing big data jobs and workflows in a self-serve way, including primary services that have all ETL and ML responsibilities running on Big Data Systems at blithequark. Key Responsibilities As a Distributed Systems Engineer at blithequark, your key responsibilities will include: Designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed systems that enable our business functions to make data-driven decisions. Collaborating with engineers, product managers, and TPMs across teams to drive cross-functional initiatives and projects. Architecting and building a robust, scalable, and highly available distributed infrastructure. Participating in the design and development of peaceful web services. Working with Java or other object-oriented programming languages to build and operate distributed systems. Handling multi-threading challenges and building fault-tolerant systems. Essential Qualifications To be successful in this role, you should have: 2+ years of experience in building large-scale distributed systems elements or applications. A BS in Computer Science or a related field. Experience in building and operating scalable, fault-tolerant distributed systems. Proficiency in Java or other object-oriented programming languages. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to apply programming and scientific principles to solve real-world problems. Preferred Qualifications While not required, the following qualifications are preferred: Experience with cloud-native technologies and distributed data processing frameworks. Knowledge of open-source technologies and contributions to blithequark OSS. Experience with event-driven and intelligent coordination. Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
