As a Hardware Evaluation Engineer in our Data Center Engineering Team, you'll be at the forefront of evaluating and characterizing the hardware that underpins our data centers, pushing the boundaries of what's possible, and making a tangible impact on our operations and the world. About the Role We're seeking a talented and experienced Hardware Evaluation Engineer to join our dynamic team. As a key member of our Infrastructure Services team, you'll be responsible for evaluating and characterizing a wide range of devices and systems, including servers, electronic, electrical, and electro-mechanical systems in our data centers. Your work will be crucial in ensuring the performance, reliability, and efficiency of our data center infrastructure. Key Responsibilities Develop and modify evaluation plans, test criteria, and test environments to assess the performance and reliability of hardware systems. Design and conduct experiments to evaluate the performance of devices and systems, analyzing data and reporting on key metrics. Perform failure analysis down to the board level, identifying root causes and suggesting corrective actions to improve hardware reliability. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to share findings, drive closure of issues, and implement improvements. Create detailed reports on evaluation results, observations, and findings, presenting to stakeholders across Apple development groups. Contribute to our global body of knowledge, driving continuous improvement and best practices in hardware evaluation. Support Data Center Operations with failure mode and root cause analysis, maintenance and troubleshooting support, and procedure review for mechanical and electrical issues. Lead team members in scoping efforts and project planning as needed. Essential Qualifications To succeed in this role, you'll need: A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent job-related experience. 3+ years of experience in designing or evaluating electronic, electrical, or electro-mechanical products or systems, such as servers, power supplies, or control systems. 3+ years of experience working with multiple lab equipment, including oscilloscopes, power analyzers, data loggers, digital multi-meters, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, programmable power supplies, air flow gauges, and microscopes. Preferred Qualifications To stand out, you'll have: Hands-on experience with prototype work and functional verification of servers, electronics, and electro-mechanical devices and systems. Working knowledge of three-phase power and cooling basics. Proficiency in Excel, Numbers, or other software for data organization, analysis, and visualization. Proven analytical, data analysis, and problem-solving skills, with strong verbal and written communication skills. Prior experience with coding/scripting skills, such as Python, for post-processing and analyzing collected data. Experience developing evaluation plans and automation software/scripts for measurement data collection and analysis. Knowledge of Device Reliability and Failure Analysis to the component level, including HASS, HALT, lifetime calculations, and working with suppliers using the 8D process.
