About the Role The High School NJROTC Teacher and Senior Naval Science Instructor position at Prairie View High School is a unique opportunity for a passionate and experienced educator to make a lasting impact on the lives of our students. As a key member of our school community, you will be responsible for leading our Navy JROTC program, teaching Naval Science classes, and mentoring students in various aspects of leadership, citizenship, and character development. This is a full-time, 10-month contract position that requires a deep commitment to our students, our school, and our community. Key Responsibilities Teach Naval Science classes to students in grades 9-12, focusing on leadership, citizenship, and character development Lead the Navy JROTC program, including planning and executing unit events, activities, and community service projects Mentor students in academic, personal, and professional development, providing guidance and support to help them achieve their goals Collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement curriculum, instructional strategies, and assessment methods that promote student learning and success Participate in school and community events, including parent-teacher conferences, open houses, and other activities that promote our school and our programs Manage unit supplies, uniforms, and finances, ensuring that our program is well-organized and fiscally responsible Recruit and retain students for the Navy JROTC program, promoting our school and our programs to the local community Develop and maintain relationships with local businesses, organizations, and community leaders to support our program and provide opportunities for our students Essential Qualifications To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following essential qualifications: A valid certification to teach Naval Science in a Navy JROTC program, including JROTC certification or JROTC program director certification Qualifications to teach the posted subject area, including a strong background in leadership, citizenship, and character development The ability to handle many complex tasks simultaneously, prioritizing multiple responsibilities and managing your time effectively The ability and interest to be part of a high-functioning team, collaborating with colleagues to achieve common goals and promote student success The ability and interest to learn continuously and adapt to changing circumstances, including new technologies, instructional strategies, and community needs A belief in empowering all children as owners of their learning, providing guidance and support to help them achieve their full potential Preferred Qualifications While not required, the following preferred qualifications will make you a more competitive candidate for this role: Experience as a Navy or Coast Guard commissioned officer, with a strong background in leadership, management, and character development Previous experience teaching Naval Science or leading a JROTC program, with a proven track record of success and student achievement A master's degree in education, leadership, or a related field, with a strong focus on character development, leadership, and citizenship Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with students, colleagues, and community leaders Skills and Competencies To succeed in this role, you will need to possess the following skills and competencies: Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire students to achieve their full potential Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with students, colleagues, and community leaders Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and manage your time effectively The ability to work independently and as part of a team, collaborating with colleagues to achieve common goals and promote student success A strong commitment to character development, leadership, and citizenship, with a passion for empowering students to become active and engaged citizens Career Growth Opportunities and Learning Benefits At 27J Schools and Prairie View High School, we are committed to providing our employees with opportunities for career growth and professional development.
