Job Overview We are seeking a highly motivated and organized individual to join our news department as a Part-Time NABET Desk Assistant. This is an entry-level position that will introduce you to the inner workings of a top newsroom and provide valuable experience in the production of news and other content across all platforms for Eyewitness News. As a Desk Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting the assignment desk, following up on tips or leads, answering phones, making calls as needed, and providing additional newsroom support. Key Responsibilities Support the assignment desk, following up on tips or leads, answering phones, making calls as needed Set up and record zoom interviews Assist Digital team with clipping video from newscasts for website Provide additional newsroom support and handle duties as assigned Provide support in the field for live events, parades, on-location shows, etc. Essential Qualifications To be successful in this role, you must be able to work a minimum of 3 days a week and be willing to work various shifts as needed, including early morning, overnight, weekends, and holidays. You should have the ability to use social media like Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, etc. to help research stories and be able to work quickly and under continuous deadlines. A minimum of one year prior experience, either through an internship or college newsroom, is required. Preferred Qualifications Prior newsroom internship experience or college newsroom experience College degree or current college attendance required (senior year preferred) Skills and Competencies The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines. You should be proficient in using social media platforms and have a strong understanding of the news industry.
