Job Overview The Principal Engineer – Data Analytics & Data Science will play a crucial role in shaping the long-term technical strategy, embracing innovation, and providing active expertise as a technical leader for the team. Key Responsibilities Leads and coaches a team of specialists, providing technical direction, sharing best practices, and fostering a culture of continuous learning and development. Drives and adheres to modern software practices through design reviews, ensuring the development of high-quality data examination and reporting solutions. Manages system design through distinct interfaces across various components, code reviews, and utilizing data/telemetry to inform decisions. Develops "top-tier" engineering for our services, ensuring that services and components are clear, modular, secure, reliable, diagnosable, easily monitored, and reusable. Improves test coverage for services, organizes and implements integration tests, and resolves trouble spots. Ensures testability, compactness/checking, reliability, and practicality, and understands when code is fit to be shared and deployed. Focuses on business needs through a data-driven approach, investigating and improving automation, reliability, and monitoring for deployed products. Sets the essential vision for data examination and reporting, aligning with organizational objectives, and provides leadership in directing the overall course of data examination technical drives. Plans, develops, and optimizes complex data models and reporting structures, driving the design and implementation of flexible and efficient data examination and reporting structures. Ensures the integrity, security, and performance of data products and reporting solutions by partnering with platforms, data architecture, and administration groups. Defines and implements the long-term technical strategy for data examination, incorporating technologies and industry trends. Stays up-to-date with emerging technologies and evaluates their relevance to the organization. Collaborates with cross-functional groups, including data scientists, business analysts, data engineers, platforms specialists, and IT professionals, to develop comprehensive data solutions. Fosters a collaborative environment that encourages knowledge sharing and skill development, leading technical authority groups and lunch and learn meetings to enhance the designing community within the organization. Essential Qualifications Demonstrated history with at least 15 years of active experience in data examination and reporting roles. 5 years of experience in leadership or senior roles, showing the ability to effectively guide and lead a team. 5 years of experience working with Cloud technologies, such as ADLS, Azure Databricks, Flash, Azure Neural Network, Universe DB, DBT, and other big data technologies. Proven advanced capability in data analysis tools, languages, ML, and systems (e.g., Conos, PowerBI, SQL, Python, R). Proficiency in data visualization tools, such as Tableau, Power BI, or similar tools to effectively communicate insights. Demonstrated ability to work with cloud platforms, such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, to design and implement flexible and efficient data examination solutions. In-depth understanding and practical application of Lakehouse architecture principles, combining the best of data lakes and data warehouses for powerful and flexible data management. Advanced SQL skills, with a strong understanding of relational databases and business data to write complex SQL queries against multiple data sources. Experience managing high-volume and high-speed data streams, and designing systems that can handle the demands of real-time or near-real-time analysis. Experience in shaping the essential vision for data examination and reporting drives within an organization. Effective management of data examination projects, including planning, execution, and delivery. Demonstrated ability to drive innovation, adapt to emerging technologies, and implement industry best practices. Demonstrated ability to assume ownership and responsibility for critical issues and close them to resolution. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Informatics, Data Science, or a related technical discipline. Relevant industry certifications are a plus. Experience in retail, manufacturing, e-commerce, supply chain, or related industries. The salary range for this position is $160,000 - $230,000, with bonus and restricted stock unit eligibility.
