About the Role We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Coding Specialist to join our team in a remote capacity. As a Coding Specialist, you will be responsible for the accurate and timely coding of complex services, ensuring that diagnoses, procedure codes, and other specified data are accurate and efficient for reimbursement purposes. Key Responsibilities Codes intermediate to complex diagnostic, evaluation, and management, surgical, and procedural coding services, including inpatient coding Performs coding quality reviews on a monthly basis and shares findings with staff to ensure continuous improvement Ensures that all charges are brought together by applying reports or processes daily and following up accordingly to guarantee seamless reimbursement Communicates with Providers, Billing Operation Managers, and clinic staff regarding documentation, coding issues, or to provide ongoing education and support Assists in research and resolves issues in a timely manner, providing feedback to management and/or providers to drive positive outcomes Partners with patient/care-giver/management in care/decision making to ensure that coding practices align with patient needs and organizational goals Minimum Qualifications To be considered for this role, you must have: A high school diploma or equivalent, coupled with CCS, CCS-P, CPC, CPC-A, CCA, RHIT, and/or RHIA certification A minimum of 2 years of experience in coding, with proficiency in basic coding and the ability to handle more sophisticated coding assignments Proficiency in CPT and ICD-10-CM coding, as well as professional and medical facility coding Ability to use medical billing systems and good analytical skills, with the capacity to identify problems or issues and provide positive solutions or outcomes Good attention to detail and highly organized, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills Preferred Qualifications While not required, the following qualifications are preferred: Experience working in a remote environment, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy, as well as experience with electronic health records (EHRs) Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex data and provide insightful solutions Excellent time management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines Skills and Competencies To be successful in this role, you must possess the following skills and competencies: Attention to detail : The ability to accurately code complex services and identify errors or discrepancies Analytical skills : The capacity to analyze complex data and provide insightful solutions or outcomes Communication skills : Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with Providers, Billing Operation Managers, and clinic staff Organizational skills : The ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment Technical skills : Proficiency in medical billing systems, CPT, and ICD-10-CM coding, as well as experience with electronic health records (EHRs) Career Growth Opportunities and Learning Benefits At University of Minnesota Physicians, we are committed to the growth and development of our employees.
