Role Overview: Staff Software Engineer The Staff Software Engineer position at Workwarp is a critical role that combines technical expertise with leadership and collaboration. As a Staff Software Engineer, you will be at the forefront of designing, building, and deploying production applications that make a real impact. You will lead by example, contributing to foundational code elements, architectural diagrams, and product documentation, while also guiding junior engineers in their growth and development. Your expertise will be invaluable in product and tool selection, configuration, security, resilience, performance tuning, and production monitoring, ensuring that our applications are not only innovative but also secure, efficient, and scalable. Key Responsibilities Delivery and Execution (50%): Develop, test, deploy, and maintain software with a deep understanding of its value proposition. Approach issues with a global perspective, consistently achieving results even in challenging circumstances. Develop comprehensive test suites to enable rapid and successful deployment of code to production. Learns and Grows (10%): Actively seek opportunities for growth and challenge, using both formal and informal development channels. Embrace learning from both successes and failures when tackling new problems. Plans and Aligns (20%): Innovate new ways for the organization to succeed, delivering clear and multi-mode communications that cater to different audiences. Collaborate with the product team to ensure user stories are developer-ready, easy to understand, and testable. Participate in agile processes and adapt your approach to match the shifting demands of various situations. Supports and Enables (20%): Provide guidance and support to product and engineering teams, helping junior engineers grow by sharing expertise on modern software development frameworks and leading technical discussions. Identify gaps in the team and suggest improvements for enhanced productivity. Direct Manager/Direct Reports and Travel Requirements This position typically reports to a Software Engineer Manager or Sr. Manager and does not have direct reports. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions The role involves spending most of the time in a comfortable sitting position with frequent opportunities to move about. The work environment is located in a comfortable indoor area, with any unpleasant conditions being infrequent and not objectionable. Qualifications and Competencies Minimum Qualifications Must be eighteen years of age or older. Must be legally permitted to work in the United States. A bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job. At least 3 years of relevant work experience. Preferred Qualifications 3-5 years of relevant work experience in software development. Extensive experience with backend Java, Springboot, and object-oriented programming languages (preferably Java). Familiarity with relational or NoSQL database technology, cloud computing techniques, CI/CD tools, and modern software design patterns. Experience with cloud computing, preferably Google Cloud Platform (GCP), AWS, or Azure. Skilled in effective data modeling with both relational and NoSQL databases. Experience with security frameworks for user and service authorization and authentication. Proficient in creating and executing unit, functional, destructive, and performance tests. Knowledge of modern debugging and root cause analysis techniques. Experience with version control systems. Skilled in designing systems for high availability, disaster recovery, performance, efficiency, and security. Exposure to developing technical roadmaps, including work estimation, refactoring, and modernizing legacy systems.
