Summary The Traveling Paramedic provides safe, professional, and compassionate emergency and non-emergency medical transport services in a traveling capacity. This role supports diverse assignments across multiple locations, ensuring patients receive advanced, high-quality care during transport to hospitals, specialty clinics, rehabilitation centers, and other destinations. The Traveling Paramedic adapts quickly to new environments, integrates with local teams, and upholds all state, local, and organizational standards while delivering timely and effective advanced pre-hospital care, including advanced airway management, medication administration, and critical patient assessment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities • Provide advanced patient care and life support interventions during emergency and non-emergency transports. • Perform advanced airway management, IV therapy, medication administration, and cardiac monitoring per protocols. • Safely operate and maintain ambulances, medical equipment, and monitoring devices. • Assess patient condition, monitor vital signs, and make critical decisions in dynamic situations. • Assist with lifting, moving, and securing patients using proper techniques and safety equipment. • Ensure accurate, thorough, and timely documentation of patient care and transport activities. • Communicate effectively with patients, families, healthcare providers, dispatchers, and partner agencies. • Adapt to varying assignments and locations, integrating smoothly with local teams and protocols. • Maintain professionalism, compassion, and calm demeanor in high-stress environments. • Comply with all regulatory, legal, and organizational policies, including HIPAA and patient confidentiality requirements. • Participate in ongoing training, skills development, and quality improvement initiatives. • Maintain a clean and orderly work area. • Other duties as required. Supervisory Responsibilities This position has no supervisory responsibilities. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Education and Experience • High school diploma or GED required; post-secondary education in paramedicine or related field preferred. • Current EMS Compact state Paramedic license/certification in good standing. • National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT-Paramedic) certification preferred. • Current CPR and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required. • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Paramedic providing emergency and/or non-emergency medical transport preferred. • Experience in diverse environments (urban, rural, interfacility transport, event medical support) is a plus. • Valid driver s license with clean driving record; EVOC/CEVO or equivalent driver training preferred. Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities • Knowledge of advanced pre-hospital care protocols, medications, and procedures. • Proficiency in emergency and non-emergency patient transport, including safe lifting and moving practices. • Ability to operate and maintain medical equipment, monitors, and ambulance vehicles. • Strong assessment, critical thinking, and decision-making skills in high-stress situations. • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with patients, families, and healthcare professionals. • Ability to remain calm, compassionate, and professional under pressure. • Adaptability to work in diverse environments and integrate quickly with new teams and protocols. • Strong attention to detail for accurate documentation and reporting. • Physical stamina to lift, move, and transport patients and equipment safely. • Commitment to confidentiality, ethical standards, and compliance with HIPAA regulations. Certificates and Licenses Required: • EMS Compact State-issued Paramedic license in good standing. • NREMT-Paramedic certification (may be required or strongly preferred depending on assignment locations). • CPR and BLS certification (American Heart Association or equivalent). • ACLS, PHTLS (or equivalent) and PALS certifications required. • Valid driver s license with clean driving record. • EVOC, CEVO, or equivalent driver training certification preferred WORKING CONDITIONS: All conditions, skills and abilities listed below are representative of those that must be met by an independent contractor to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Physical Demands and Work Environment • Must be able to lift, carry, and move patients and equipment weighing up to 125 pounds (or more with assistance) using proper techniques and safety equipment. • Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and reaching during patient care and transport. • Ability to work in confined spaces such as ambulances and tight patient environments. • Capable of performing physically demanding tasks under stressful and emergency conditions. • Exposure to various environmental conditions, including extreme temperatures, weather, noise, and potentially hazardous materials. • Ability to work long shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays, including on-call assignments as needed. • Must wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required, including gloves, masks, gowns, and eye protection. • Work may involve exposure to infectious diseases, bodily fluids, and other biohazards; adherence to strict infection control protocols is required. • Frequent travel between assignment locations, sometimes requiring extended periods away from home.
