Industrial Engineer _ Material Flow

Job Description We are seeking a highly skilled Industrial Engineer – Material Flow to join our Center of Excellence (CoE). This role is critical to advancing manufacturing efficiency, validating material flow strategies, and developing scalable best practices across the enterprise. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in simulation, data analysis, and industrial engineering principles to drive innovation and operational excellence in a modern manufacturing environment. What You’ll Do Lead material flow simulations to evaluate line-side delivery, warehouse logistics, and automated material handling solutions Develop, validate, and maintain discrete-event simulation models to optimize labor, equipment, and space utilization Partner with manufacturing, operations, and engineering teams to ensure material flow strategies are scalable, sustainable, and standardized Conduct time studies, capacity analysis, and ergonomic assessments to identify improvement opportunities Establish and maintain standard processes, metrics, and best practices for deployment across multiple facilities Provide technical guidance on integrating automation technologies such as AGVs/AMRs, conveyors, and robotics into plant operations Support continuous improvement initiatives aligned with Lean Manufacturing principles and Industry 4.0 strategies What You’ll Bring Strong understanding of material flow optimization, Lean Manufacturing principles, and PFEP (Plan for Every Part) Demonstrated ability to build and interpret simulation models to support data-driven decision-making Proven analytical skills with the ability to translate complex data into clear, actionable insights Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate across cross-functional and global teams A continuous improvement mindset with a passion for innovation and operational excellence What Will Give You a Competitive Edge Experience with ERP and WMS systems, digital twin technologies, or advanced manufacturing analytics Background supporting enterprise standards, global manufacturing networks, or Centers of Excellence Exposure to automation-driven material handling solutions in high-volume or complex manufacturing environments About GM Our vision is a world with Zero Crashes, Zero Emissions and Zero Congestion and we embrace the responsibility to lead the change that will make our world better, safer and more equitable for all.
