Legal Intern, LGBTQ & HIV Project

The ACLU seeks a Summer Legal Intern for the LGBTQ & HIV Project to conduct legal research, drafting, and support advocacy efforts in a remote or hybrid setting. Your Role Here’s what you will be doing: • Complete research and writing projects supporting the LGBTQ & HIV Project’s litigation, policy advocacy, and public education goals • Draft memoranda, affidavits, and briefs • Conduct legal and policy research • Research prospects for new litigation, including factual and legal claims • Draft materials for public education • Work under close supervision of attorneys with varying experiences and management styles About You The company is looking for: • Current law students who have completed at least one year of law school by the internship start • Demonstrated commitment to advancing civil liberties of LGBTQ+ people and people living with HIV • Excellent research skills, including internet and legal database research • Strong verbal and written communication skills • Attention to detail, excellent organizing and time-management skills • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite • Initiative to see projects through to completion • Must be based in the U.S. for the entire internship duration Compensation & Benefits • Stipend of $24/hour (taxed) for lawfully authorized students • Remote or hybrid work options based in New York City • Full-time commitment of 35 hours per week for 10 consecutive weeks Training & Development Interns receive close supervision and exposure to attorneys with diverse experiences to develop substantive legal skills and civil rights advocacy.
