Line & Copy Editor Needed for 75k-Word Sci-Fi/Fantasy Novel (No Developmental Edit)
I’m seeking an experienced editor for a line and copy edit only of a completed sci-fi/fantasy novel (~75,000 words). This manuscript is structurally complete. I am not looking for developmental editing, restructuring, rewriting, or formatting. My priority is clarity, consistency, grammar, and sentence-level flow while preserving the author’s voice. Scope of Work Please read carefully. This is important. Included: • Line editing (sentence flow, clarity, repetition) • Copy editing (grammar, punctuation, consistency) • Light continuity flags (e.g., name consistency, tense slips) • Track Changes or equivalent Not included: • Developmental or structural edits • Plot or pacing rewrites • Formatting for print or ebook • Style overhauls or voice changes If your normal workflow includes developmental edits, that’s fine—but this project explicitly excludes them. Genre • Science fiction / fantasy • Original world, series-planned novel Timeline • Manuscript will be ready for editing by: January 20, 2026 • Target turnaround: 7–14 days, negotiable depending on scope and availability Budget • Limited budget (please propose your rate clearly) • I am open to partial edits or sample-based edits if that helps align scope and cost Ideal Editor • Experience editing fiction (especially sci-fi/fantasy) • Comfortable working within a strictly defined scope • Respects author voice and intentional stylistic choices • Communicates clearly about what they will and won’t change To Apply Please include: 1. A brief description of your line/copy editing experience 2. Confirmation that you understand this is not a developmental edit 3. Your proposed rate and turnaround time 4. (Optional) A short sample or explanation of your editing approach I’m looking for precision, not reinvention. Applicants who do not acknowledge the excluded scope (developmental editing) will not be considered. Apply tot his job
