As a key member of our GENERAL LAB team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accurate and efficient transcription of pathology reports, as well as providing administrative support to our laboratory team. Job Summary As a Pathology Transcriptionist and Administrative Assistant, you will be responsible for transcribing pathology reports, performing administrative tasks, and providing customer service to our patients and physicians. You will work closely with our laboratory team to ensure accurate and timely transcription of reports, as well as provide support for pathology consultations and billing. Key Responsibilities Pathology Transcription: Transcribe, distribute, and charge for all pathology reports accurately and efficiently, meeting established turnaround times. Verify accuracy of patient information, including patient name, dictator's name, and case number. Forward correct historical data to pathologists in a timely manner. Document and handle any problems, questions, or complaints. Administrative Duties: Handle requests for reports, slides, and consultations accurately and promptly. Answer and direct calls appropriately. Chart surgical and PAP reports for inpatients and mail results to physicians. Train others in departmental policies and procedures. Order department supplies as needed. Perform other clerical duties, such as copying and filing. Charges and Billing: Accurately enter or confirm pathology charges as per established procedures. Help resolve billing problems associated with pathology billing services. Lab Customer Service: Greet all customers in a cheerful, professional manner. Actively listen to customer needs and concerns. Communicate with customers and provide accurate, reliable, and timely information. Other Duties: Attend mandatory in-services, staff meetings, and actively participate in self-education. Maintain required job knowledge, including licensure and credentials, continuing education, and competency assessments. Requirements and Qualifications Essential Qualifications: Education: Bachelor's Degree Credentials: Basic Life Support (Required) Experience: Medical transcription experience preferred, with experience in a pathology setting desirable. Skills: Proficiency in the use of computers and word-processing software. Effective interpersonal communication skills. Preferred Qualifications: Certification: Certified Medical Transcriptionist (CMT) or Registered Medical Transcriptionist (RMT) certification.
