As a key member of our Patient Access department, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and service, ensuring a positive experience for our patients and their families. Role Overview As a Patient Access Representative 1, you will serve as a Patient Advocate and Service Ambassador, providing a favorable first impression and proactive attention to internal and external customers. Your primary responsibilities will include: Performing on-site patient access registration related functions promptly, without compromising patient safety, quality, service levels, and reimbursement. Identifying and collecting patients' self-pay responsibility, including co-pays, deductibles, co-insurances, self-pay discount rates, global packages, and previous outstanding balances. Complying with all established UHealth policies and procedures related to Patient Access and State/Federal regulations. Providing excellent customer service, addressing concerns, and optimizing patient experience. Working effectively with physicians, co-workers, other departments, and patients of all ages and backgrounds. Performing other duties as assigned based on departmental needs. Key Qualifications and Skills To be successful in this role, you will need: Excellent verbal and written communications skills in English. Critical thinking, analytical, troubleshooting, problem resolution, and customer service skills. Mathematical and cash management skills. Knowledge of medical terminology (preferred). Ability to work as an integral team member under minimal supervision, in a fast-paced, complex, and highly stressful environment. Computer literacy and ability to use multiple systems, including UChart, Cadence/Prelude/Enterprise Billing, Passport HealthWorks Compliance Checker, Availity, RIS-PACS, CaneCare, UMCare, Intellidose, MCSL, Experian, and online verification systems used by contracted payors. Essential and Preferred Requirements The ideal candidate will have: A High School Diploma (required) or Bachelor's degree (preferred). One (1) year of customer service experience (required), preferably in a healthcare-related setting. Bilingual skills (English/Spanish, English/Creole, English/French, English/Arabic) are a plus. Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.
