[Remote] Legal Translator, Editor and/or Transcriber
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Global Language Strategies, a business headquartered in the Washington, D.C. metro region, is currently seeking a professional freelance linguist to translate, edit, and/or transcribe legal documents from English to Korean. The role involves providing accurate translations and editing legal documents while demonstrating a strong command of legal terminology in both languages. Responsibilities • Provide accurate translation, editing of documents, and/or transcription of audio files involving law enforcement and legal subject matter from English to Korean • Edit audio transcriptions that include slang and idioms • Edit legal documents, such as affidavits, depositions, etc., while demonstrating a strong command of legal terminology in both English and the target language • Excellent written communication skills in English and the target foreign language, with Advanced Proficiency (reading/speaking/listening, writing) level 3-plus in English and the foreign target language, as assessed by the International Language Roundtable (ILR) scale • Translate, edit, and/or transcribe following the government client’s style guides and quality standards • Use domain-specific terminology • Review and certify other translators’ work quality, as needed • Highly proficient in MS Office, with the ability to mirror source document format in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint • Familiar with the use of CAT tools, such as Trados Studio Skills • U.S. Citizenship • A U.S. citizen willing to undergo a U.S. government background check to obtain a Public Trust Clearance • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience • At least 3 years of experience in legal documentation, translating, and/or editing between English and a foreign language • Or 3 years of experience performing audio transcription with the ability to use software to enhance sound and equipment to aid in transcription • Familiar with legal terminology in both English and the target foreign language(s) • Proficient in Microsoft Office • Translators and editors must proficiently use CAT tools, such as Trados • ATA, NAJIT, or other relevant professional certification Benefits • Remote • Freelance • Flexible schedule Company Overview • Global Language Strategies (GLS) is an 8a certified woman-owned small business focused on the provision of quality certified translation, interpretation, distance learning and program/project management services.
