[Remote] Senior Legal Counsel, Voting Rights

Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Campaign Legal Center is an organization focused on promoting the freedom to vote and political participation. The Senior Legal Counsel will be responsible for identifying litigation opportunities, managing a caseload, and providing legal expertise to support pro-voter policies at various governmental levels. Responsibilities • Identify and develop strategic litigation opportunities promoting the freedom to vote and engage in robust political dissent and participation in coordination with internal and external stakeholders • Manage a caseload, from pleading stage through discovery, trial, and appellate proceedings • Prepare pleadings, motions, and briefs in federal and state cases, and strategize and manage discovery process • Take and defend witness depositions, lead conferences with opposing counsel, and take part in court hearings • Manage record-building activities for caseload • Draft legislation and policy proposals and review and analyze proposed legislation, regulations, and other policy proposals and create relevant legal advocacy materials • Build and maintain relationships with local and national partners in support of litigation and legislative efforts • Manage junior team members, including counsel and support staff • Other duties as assigned • Some travel required Skills • At least five years of legal experience • Active membership in the DC bar in good standing, or eligibility to waive into the DC bar • Experience with all stages of the litigation process • Strong research, writing, and analytical skills • Exceptional interpersonal communication skills with a demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively as part of a team • Experience managing staff • Commitment to the nonpartisan nature and overall mission of CLC Benefits • Generous health, dental, and vision insurance with low employee premiums • A 401(k) retirement plan with a dollar-for-dollar match up to 6%, with immediate vesting • 20 vacation days, 12 sick days, and 3 floating holidays annually • 12 weeks of fully paid parental leave, 10 days of bereavement leave, and 8 weeks of sabbatical leave for those who qualify • Office closures for all federal holidays, plus typically a week in late summer, and a week in the winter. • Flexible Spending and Dependent Care Accounts • A $1,000 annual professional development stipend and bar membership reimbursement • A $300 annual technology allowance • Pre-tax metro smart benefits • New family and family planning support, including reimbursement for travel to access legal reproductive healthcare • An Employee Assistance Program (EAP) with free, confidential support for personal, financial, and family matters.
