ExecutivePlacements.com is working with The Home Depot to find a Sr. Software Engineer who will design, build, and improve custom warehouse execution systems. The role involves leading development initiatives that optimize automation and efficiency in supply chain operations, collaborating with a diverse team to enhance technical capabilities and mentor junior engineers. Responsibilities • Develops, tests, deploys, and maintains software, with a clear understanding of the value the software is to provide; takes on new opportunities and tough challenges with a sense of urgency, high energy and enthusiasm; consistently achieves results, even under tough circumstances; develops test suites (functional, destructive, etc) to enable success, rapid deployment of code to production; takes a broad view when approaching issues; using a global lens. • Learns through successful and failed experiments when tackling new problems; actively seeks ways to grow and be challenged using both formal and informal development channels. • Collaborates with other team members in agile processes; creates new and better ways for the organization to be successful; works with the Product Team to ensure user stories are valuable, developer ready, easy to understand and testable; delivers multi-mode communications that convey a clear understanding of the unique needs of different audiences; adapts approach and demeanor in real time to match shifting demands; relates openly and comfortably with diverse groups of people. • Helps grow junior engineers by providing guidance on modern software development frameworks and leading technical discussions. Skills • Must be eighteen years of age or older. • Must be legally permitted to work in the United States. • 2-4 years of focused experience architecting and developing software for supply chain operations, warehouse execution systems (WES), or fulfillment center technology preferably involving large-scale, automated distribution environments. • Demonstrated expertise with warehouse robotics, automation technologies, and conveyor system integration, including hands-on development and support of programmable logic controllers (PLCs). • Proven track record in designing, building, and maintaining custom warehouse execution systems from the ground up, optimizing workflow, material handling, and order fulfillment within high-volume, automated facilities. • Advanced proficiency in Java, with practical experience deploying robust solutions that interface directly with industrial automation hardware, sensors, and control systems. • Supply chain background and understanding of distribution center processes, including hands-on collaboration with operations, engineering, and automation teams. • Experience implementing and integrating automation technologies iteratively such as robotics, conveyor controls, and warehouse IoT using modern design patterns and scalable cloud architectures. • Solid foundation in front-end development using HTML, CSS, and modern JavaScript/Typescript frameworks, paired with competency in object-oriented programming languages (Java strongly preferred). • Thorough understanding of database design and management, including relational and NoSQL solutions supporting real-time warehouse operations. • Familiarity with CI/CD tools, cloud platforms, and software delivery automation for mission-critical warehouse environments. • Practical experience with security frameworks to ensure rigorous authorization and authentication for users, devices, and integrated systems across fulfillment processes. • Proven history in creating, executing, and automating unit, functional, destructive, and performance testing, especially for systems interacting with physical automation equipment. • Proficiency with modern debugging and root cause analysis, particularly resolving warehouse systems issues affecting production. • Strong version control habits (e.g., Git), with a bias toward team-driven, agile development and supporting distributed engineering collaboration.
