New York State Workers' Compensation Board is seeking a Senior Accountant/Accountant Trainee to assist with various accounting functions related to customer accounts and daily deposits. The role includes verifying assessment forms, maintaining records, conducting payroll audits, and processing payments. Responsibilities Verify assessment forms submitted to the New York State Workers' Compensation Board are accurate and reasonable. If a form is found to be inaccurate or missing data, conduct outreach to resolve any discrepancies. Create accounting entries into the Statewide Financial System (SFS) based on completed forms Maintain records to ensure assessment forms and payments are received promptly. Notify supervisor of any delinquent forms, payments, or differences that cannot be resolved Conduct payroll audits to confirm correct payroll rates are being used to ensure proper payment to the New York State Workers' Compensation Board Update payment plans in Excel and SFS for customers who have agreed to pay their outstanding balance in installments Perform daily accounting entries for deposits made through our Lockbox facility Answer questions regarding payments and payment plans Process password reset requests and assist customers with questions regarding making their payments online Skills Candidate must have a bachelor's degree in accounting, auditing, or taxation or a bachelor's degree with 24 semester credit hours in accounting, auditing, or taxation courses Accountant Trainee 1 (Hiring Rate $53,764) - A bachelor's degree in accounting, auditing, or taxation or a bachelor's degree with 24 semester credit hours in accounting, auditing, or taxation courses Accountant Trainee 2 (Hiring Rate $59,994) - A bachelor's degree in accounting, auditing, or taxation or a bachelor's degree with 24 semester credit hours in accounting, auditing, or taxation courses and one year of professional experience in accounting/auditing or financial internal or field auditing, where you were responsible for the full range of activities in the design and/or review, analysis and management of accounting systems, resulting in the preparation of, or recommendations on, financial statements in accord with generally accepted accounting principles A master's or higher degree in accounting, auditing, or taxation may substitute for one year of experience Senior Accountant (Hiring Rate $66,951) - A bachelor's degree in accounting, auditing, or taxation or a bachelor's degree with 24 semester credit hours in accounting, auditing, or taxation courses and two years of professional experience in accounting/auditing or financial internal or field auditing, where you were responsible for the full range of activities in the design and/or review, analysis and management of accounting systems, resulting in the preparation of, or recommendations on, financial statements in accord with generally accepted accounting principles A master's degree in accounting, auditing, or taxation and one year of professional experience in accounting/auditing or financial internal or field auditing, where you were responsible for the full range of activities in the design and/or review, analysis and management of accounting systems, resulting in the preparation of, or recommendations on, financial statements in accord with generally accepted accounting principles or a currently valid Certified Public Accountant license and registration issued by New York State Individuals certified eligible for the 55b/c program under the Governor's Program to Hire Persons/Veterans with Disabilities pursuant to Section 55b/c of the Civil Service Law will also be considered.
