Key Responsibilities Advanced Creature Rigging and Skinning: Lead the rigging and skinning of hero to background creatures, vehicles, and props in Maya, ensuring they meet the high standards of ILM's visual excellence. Simulation Expertise: Set up and run complex simulations including cloth, hair, rigid body, and muscle simulations to bring characters and elements to life. Troubleshooting and Mentoring: Troubleshoot rigging and pipeline issues for artists across various disciplines and mentor entry-level artists to foster a culture of learning and growth. Scripting and Tool Development: Script utilities, tools, and plug-ins in Maya to streamline workflows and enhance productivity. Performance Optimization: Apply knowledge of Maya rigging techniques to optimize the performance of rigs, ensuring they are both functional and efficient. Collaboration and Communication: Participate in reviews, dailies, and department meetings, demonstrating good communication skills and a positive, collaborative attitude. Essential Qualifications Professional Experience: 5+ years of relevant professional experience in VFX, with a focus on creature rigging and simulation, or at least 7 years of relevant experience in lieu of a college-level diploma in computer graphics, fine arts, design, or a related field. Maya Expertise: Advanced experience with hero asset rigging and skinning in Maya, along with proficiency in setting up and running simulation shotwork. Anatomical Knowledge: Experience with corrective sculpting and a good understanding of anatomy and skinning. Technical Skills: Proficiency with Linux, expertise with Maya, and knowledge of creature simulation in Houdini. Python scripting skills are also essential. Soft Skills: A positive attitude, willingness to be a team player, passion for the work, and good communication skills. Preferred Qualifications Crowd Simulation Experience: Experience with Massive or Houdini crowd software. C++ Programming: Knowledge of C++ programming language. Multi-disciplinary Skills: Basic proficiency in another discipline such as modeling, texture, TD, or animation. Crowd Simulations: Experience with crowd simulations.
