Senior Microsoft 365 Engineer Department: Projects Employment Type: Full Time Location: Texas Reporting To: Leighton Poley Description The Senior Microsoft 365 Engineer – Entra ID & SharePoint Specialist plays a key role in designing, implementing, and managing modern collaboration, identity, and security solutions across Microsoft 365 environments. This senior-level position focuses on SharePoint Online, Entra ID (formerly Azure Active Directory), Exchange Online, Teams, OneDrive, and Microsoft Purview for compliance. This role leads client-facing projects related to migrations, secure collaboration, tenant design, identity governance, and productivity optimization. The engineer will act as a trusted advisor during planning, deployment, and post-go-live stabilization phases, ensuring secure, scalable, and supportable solutions that drive business outcomes. This is a remote position with occasional client site travel, including infrequent out-of-state trips, as needed. Key Responsibilities Microsoft 365 Architecture & Implementation • Design, deploy, and support SharePoint Online modern site structures, permission models, document libraries, and metadata • Configure and maintain Microsoft Entra ID, including hybrid identity sync, conditional access, MFA, and privileged identity management • Deploy and manage Teams, OneDrive, and Exchange Online, including policy enforcement, mailbox migrations, and retention rules • Plan and lead Microsoft 365 migrations (on-prem and tenant-to-tenant), ensuring data integrity and user continuity • Build low-code automation using Power Automate and Power Apps to optimize business workflows • Design and enforce Microsoft 365 governance, lifecycle, labeling, and DLP policies through Microsoft Purview Client Project Execution • Serve as the senior technical lead for M365, SharePoint, and Entra-focused projects from planning through post-implementation • Collaborate with the Project Manager to define technical milestones, risk mitigation, and task sequencing • Join client calls, workshops, or discovery sessions as the subject matter expert • Deliver client training, adoption sessions, and early support during cutovers Security, Compliance & Identity Governance • Configure and monitor security features across M365 including conditional access, MFA, Microsoft Defender for Office 365, compliance alerts, and insider risk policies • Support governance policy design related to external sharing, access reviews, data retention, and hybrid environments • Work alongside cybersecurity, compliance, and NOC teams to ensure secure, policy-driven Microsoft 365 usage Documentation & Handoff • Document configurations, identity models, policy designs, site structures, and project runbooks using tools such as Hudu • Contribute to internal documentation standards, templates, and best practices • Support seamless handoff to support and service teams after project closeout Mentorship & Team Enablement • Act as a technical mentor to Project Technicians and junior engineers on Microsoft 365, SharePoint, and identity best practices • Collaborate with infrastructure, cybersecurity, and systems engineering peers to align tools, policies, and user experiences • Contribute to internal tool evaluations and Microsoft 365 product road mapping Skills, Knowledge & Expertise Minimum Qualifications • 5+ years of experience in IT engineering roles, with 2+ years of hands-on Microsoft 365 and Entra ID experience • Proficient with Microsoft 365 suite: Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, OneDrive • Hands-on experience designing and managing Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), hybrid sync, SSO, and conditional access • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Purview, DLP, retention, and compliance tools • Strong PowerShell skills for scripting, reporting, and automation • Experience planning and executing M365 tenant-to-tenant or on-prem to cloud migrations • Ability to manage projects independently and interface directly with clients • Clear communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and assist with physical installations if required Preferred Qualifications • 7+ years of experience in Microsoft cloud environments or MSP delivery roles • Strong understanding of SharePoint Online architecture, metadata strategy, Power Platform integrations • Familiarity with Microsoft Defender for Office 365 and Microsoft compliance center configuration • Experience delivering Microsoft 365 adoption programs or user training sessions • Experience working in a client-facing or consulting role with multiple simultaneous projects • Knowledge of endpoint and identity integrations (Intune, device compliance, authentication flows) • Familiarity with documentation tools such as Hudu, IT Glue, or Liongard Certifications Candidates must possess at least four (4) of the following certifications to qualify for this role: • Microsoft 365 Certified: Fundamentals (MS-900) • Microsoft Certified: Identity and Access Administrator Associate (SC-300) • Microsoft Certified: Teams Administrator Associate (MS-700) or Collaboration Communications Systems Engineer (MS-720) • Microsoft 365 Certified: Enterprise Administrator Expert (MS-102) • Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104) • Microsoft Certified: Information Protection Administrator (SC-400) or successor • Power Platform App Maker (PL-100) or Functional Consultant (PL-200) Job Benefits • Medical Insurance • Dental Insurance • Vision Insurance • Life Insurance • Disability Insurance • 401(k) Apply tot his job
