About the position Are you interested in building hyper-scale database services in the cloud? Do you want to revolutionize the way databases are built for the cloud? Amazon Aurora MySQL offers MySQL compatible relational database engine that combines the speed and availability of high-end commercial databases with the simplicity and cost-effectiveness of open source databases. It provides up to five times better performance than MySQL, all at a price point one tenth that of a commercial database while delivering similar performance and availability. We are looking for software developers who are passionate about databases and large-scale storage technologies, and excited about building database systems that run across thousands of servers across multiple data-centers worldwide. This is a core infrastructure development position where you will grow to own the design and development of significant software components critical to our industry leading database services architected for the cloud. You will be part of the team that architects, designs, and implements highly scalable distributed database systems with availability, reliability and performance guarantees. This is a hands-on position where you will get an opportunity to get involved at every level of the software development cycle, from designing, building, and releasing rock-solid components to deploying and monitoring them in production, as well as mentoring other engineers. We are looking for a top software developer with a good track record of delivering, as well as strong communication, leadership and customer-focus skills. Responsibilities • Get involved at every level of the software development cycle, from designing and building rock-solid components to deploying and monitoring them in production. • Support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (IoT), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS. • Collaborate across diverse teams, projects, and environments to have a firsthand impact on our global customer base. • Solve challenging technical problems, often ones not solved before, at every layer of the stack. • Design, implement, test, deploy and maintain innovative software solutions to transform service performance, durability, cost, and security. • Build high-quality, highly available, always-on products. • Research implementations that deliver the best possible experiences for customers. • Create metrics, implement automation and other improvements, and resolve the root cause of software defects. • Participate in design discussions, code review, and communicate with internal and external stakeholders. • Work cross-functionally to help drive business decisions with your technical input. Requirements • 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience. • 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience. • 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience. • Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team. Nice-to-haves • 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience. • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.
