With a growing student population of over 1,700 students requiring individualized support, we are seeking enthusiastic, caring, and dedicated Paraeducators and Tutors to join our Special Education team. As a Paraeducator or Tutor with Danbury Public Schools, you will play a vital role in supporting the educational journey of our students with diverse needs, helping them achieve their full potential and succeed in the classroom and beyond. Key Responsibilities Work with individual students or small groups under the supervision of a certified teacher to reinforce learning and skill development. Collect data on student progress and assist with assessing student needs. Assist teachers with instructional and non-instructional duties, such as preparing materials, supervising students during activities, and maintaining a well-organized classroom environment. Provide support with daily living needs, such as feeding, toileting, and mobility assistance, as required. Help students master equipment and instructional materials, and guide independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work. Maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion when working with students, colleagues, and families. Participate in staff development workshops and in-service training programs to enhance instructional delivery and support student needs. Assist with implementing inclusion plans, behavioral supports, and other strategies to promote student success. Perform related duties as assigned by the teacher or administrator, such as supervising students during transitions, assemblies, and other activities. Essential Qualifications and Skills To be successful as a Paraeducator or Tutor with Danbury Public Schools, you will need: A High School Diploma or equivalent. To meet NCLB Para compliance requirements, as applicable. Experience or training in working with children, particularly those with special needs. The ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions effectively. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Patience, tact, and courtesy when working with students, colleagues, and families. A physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position, including the ability to lift, move, and assist students as needed. A willingness to acquire the skills necessary to support students with diverse needs, including autism, ABA, and behavioral needs. Preferred Qualifications While not required, the following qualifications are highly valued: Experience working in a special education setting. Training or certification in areas such as autism, ABA, or crisis intervention. Previous experience working with students with diverse needs, including those with physical, emotional, or cognitive disabilities. Bilingual or multilingual skills. What We Offer At Danbury Public Schools, we offer a competitive salary and benefits package, including: A hourly rate of $15.03, as required by the current CSEA paraeducator union contract.
