As a Sr Machine Learning Engineer, you will design, build and scale production-ready ML systems that power personalized and data-driven guest experiences. You will work closely with data scientists, product managers, and software engineers to turn models into robust, high-performing services that deliver real impact at scale. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about building ML infrastructure, deploying state-of-the-art models and solving complex engineering challenges at scale. Sr Machine Learning Engineers are expected to understand best-practice software design, participate in code reviews and create a maintainable and well-tested codebase with relevant documentation. Additionally, candidates will have opportunities to design and develop additional tooling, such as REST APIs or streaming message queues, to deliver data to external consumers. You will also have opportunities to present work to technical leaders, conduct training sessions, and contribute learnings back to the organization. You will also build knowledge on business priorities and strategic goals, leveraging this understanding to inform requirements and solutions for each business need. About you: • 4-year degree in Quantitative disciplines (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) or equivalent experience • 3 plus years of experience in end-to-end applied Machine Learning/ML Ops • Demonstrated programming experience in Python, Java or Scala • Experience deploying Machine Learning algorithms into production environments • Extensive experience with ML Ops (GCP Vertex AI, BigQuery, etc.) and various testing frameworks and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) • Familiarity with Deep Learning frameworks and libraries (TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn) • Experience with Recommendation Systems, Personalization, NLP, or Computer Vision • Knowledge of feature stores, vector databases, or real-time streaming architectures • Good understanding of Big Data tech - specifically the Spark and/or the Hadoop ecosystem • Ability to collaborate with product managers, applied data scientists and engineers to understand the business requirements and translate to machine learning solutions at scale • Excellent communication skills with the ability to clearly tell data driven stories through appropriate visualizations, graphs and narratives • Self-driven and motivated team-player with ability to collaborate effectively across global team • Experience in mentoring junior team members in ML skillset and career development This position will operate as a Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement based on Target's needs. A Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement means the team member's core role will need to be performed both onsite at the Target HQ Sunnyvale location the role is assigned to and virtually, depending upon what your role, team and tasks require for that day.
