Staff Accountant, Fuels and Emissions

The Staff Accountant will be responsible for day-to-day accounting activities related to oil inventory, including month-end and quarter-end accounting close and reporting tasks. Responsibilities Responsible for accounting, reporting and analysis of fuel inventory activity on a monthly, quarterly, yearly basis Work closely with Commercial Operations team to properly manage fuel inventory within subledger system Handle the settlement process of commodity and transportation activity for a given month Complete monthly accounting close including journal entry preparation and balance sheet reconciliations Experience in a fast-paced environment including ability and experience to meet firm deadlines including monthly close on a defined schedule Assist with special projects as requested Skills Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, or finance with 0-2 years of experience in general financial accounting and reporting Knowledge of general ledger and reporting software Proficient with Microsoft Office Ability to communicate with all levels of internal and external customers Capability to work independently in team-oriented culture in a fast-paced environment Prior experience in the energy industry or similar commodity-based industries Proven analytical and problem-solving skills; demonstrated planning and organizing skills; ability to think strategically/long-term Good knowledge of controls and balance sheet discipline Benefits Annual bonus Short- and long-term incentives Program-specific awards Medical Vision Dental 401K Flexible spending accounts Company Overview NRG Energy is an integrated power generation and supply firm that offers offsite solar, wind power, and smart grid retail services.
