Technical Documentation Specialist - Skylla Engineering Ltd. - North Charleston, SC - work from home job Company: Skylla Engineering Ltd. Job description: Skylla Engineering is seeking a Senior Technical Documentation Specialist for researching, writing, editing, and proofreading technical data for use in documents or sections of documents such as technical manuals, operations manuals, quick reference guides, modification instructions, technical instructions, procedures and specifications. The position also involves ensuring that technical documentation is accurate, complete, meets editorial and customer specifications, and adheres to prescribed standards for quality, graphics, coverage, format, and style. The Technical Documentation Specialist may be required to assist with establishing style guidelines and standards for texts and illustrations and may also be required to interact with engineers and subject matter experts to extract technical information, which becomes the content for documents. Government templates will be used as the formatting standards for most documents. The responsibilities include but are not limited to: • Develop, update and maintain documentation as necessary, including but not limited to logistics plans, reports, manuals, guidelines, technical instructions, standards, etc. • Support client reviews of logistics documentation, technical reports, and detailed analyses • Plan, develop, and write documentation sets, including concept, reference, and task-oriented information, targeted for different audiences • Identify, plan, and revise technical writing project requirements and deliverables, and research complex source material for the project • Work with program/project teams to develop various engineering and logistics specifications and procedures, and software and hardware user documentation • Interpret Technical Drawings and Diagrams (MIL-STD-31000, ASME Y14.100, ASME Y14.24 and ASME Y14.34) • Work with engineers, software developers, and logisticians in lab, test and field environments, interview technical staff, collect source material, and conduct procedure validation with cross-functional technical experts for use in the field • Organize material and complete writing assignments per set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology • Work closely with logistics teams to design, write, and deliver professional documentation • Review Government standards to verify and update documentation to conform • Conduct verification and validation of documentation for correctness and usability • Track multiple product updates and ensures that they are reflected in the documentation • Participate in team meetings and contribute to the establishment of improved documentation processes • Participate in defining content development strategies and work with engineers and technical teams and guide content creation per defined standards • Work with writers and technical resources to improve document quality and usability • Maintain current team knowledge of technical writing techniques, tools, methodologies, and user interface development guidelines Required Skills • Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision in a dynamic work environment • Ability to learn software products used in the creation and publishing of technical documentation • Ability to interpret and describe technical diagrams, drawings, schematics and photographs • Ability to interview (in person and remote) engineers and other technical personnel and develop a coherent and cohesive summary of work ,step-by-step instructions, and accurately describe hardware and software engineering products to non-engineering audiences • Ability to capture and describe work-flow processes and procedures • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing using common Microsoft Office Products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PPT, Visio) • Ability to maintain professional interaction with Government clients, program management personnel and other contractors • Ability to maintain SECRET Clearance with background investigation Required Experience Required Experience: • 10 or more years of experience in in technical writing or systems engineering/integration, to include: writing/editing technical documentation, procedures and guidelines for Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (C4ISR) systems, software or equipment • Extensive experience in the development, writing, formatting, editing, and proofreading of military technical documentation such as system administration manuals, system user manual, technical manual, maintenance procedures, and standard operational procedures • Must be a US Citizen • Must have an active SECRET security clearance Desired Experience: • Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Technical Writing, Engineering or Computer Science • Proficiency editing/creating documents using Adobe FrameMaker • Familiarity with NIWC Atlantic Style Guides, US Marine Corps Style Guides, and MIL-STD-38784 • Knowledge of NIWC Atlantic Engineering Change Proposals (ECP) and preparation of Provisioning Parts Lists (LSA036 & LSA151 reports) • Knowledge of Marine Corps publications, modification instructions, technical instructions • SATCOM or Radio data systems integration experience • Experience working with 3-D drafting processes and Model Based Systems Engineering • Experience developing infographics for engineering processes Skylla Engineering is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer.
