Job Description: Niche-focused investment banking firm is seeking to add an experienced sales trader to its fixed income sales-trading team. We are seeking to expand a highly specialized team focusing on sales of securities to U.S. state and local governments for their cash and short-term investment needs. The team is part of the firm’s overall investment banking activity that services these governmental units. We have active investment banking relationships with numerous governmental units across the United States, including most of the largest cities and states. The successful candidate will not be required to bring clients to this position as a new hire. They will be assigned existing, established accounts with numerous governmental entities across the United States. This role will be supported by traders who source securities for sale, investment bankers with government relationships, and a marketing department that supports administrative activities, such as preparing broker-dealer applications. Responsibilities: • Sell fixed income securities to state and local municipalities for their short-term and medium-term investment requirements. • Work with the team to purchase securities for reselling to end customers. • Execute end customer sales and purchases. Desired Qualifications: • Minimum 3 years’ experience (ideally at least 4 to 5) in a U.S. Treasury and agency sales or capital commitment environment. • Deep understanding of fixed income products, including Treasury and agency securities, corporate bonds, and commercial paper, with emphasis on short-term and mid-duration products (5 years and under). • Basic knowledge of municipal bonds and municipal governmental organizations. • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. • General sales skills, though not necessarily prior sales experience. These skills include general written and verbal sales communication ability, organization, and personal record-keeping, along with a high degree of initiative. • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree. A science, technology, engineering, math, economics, or other quantitative major is helpful. CFA or MBA is a plus. • A Series 7 License is required. A Series 53 license is desirable but not required. Who Thrives in This Role • Experienced treasury sales professional with a strong understanding of how to market, price, and execute U.S. Treasury and related fixed-income products • Proven ability to leverage and expand existing firm client relationships to drive trading activity and revenue; candidates are not expected to originate new client relationships • Strong fixed-income product knowledge and the analytical skills required to interpret market conditions and deliver actionable commentary to clients • Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple client interactions, market flows, and execution priorities in a fast-paced environment • Commercially minded, with a clear understanding of how sales activity translates into firm profitability • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the professionalism required to engage sophisticated institutional clients and internal trading partners Compensation: Total compensation is competitive and performance-based. Successful candidates can expect the opportunity to achieve total compensation of $300,000+ as they ramp and establish themselves in the role.
