Position Overview As an Assistant Professor of Statistics, you will be expected to maintain an excellent research program that leads to publication and presentation in peer-reviewed scholarly outlets. You will also have the opportunity to secure extramural funding, teach undergraduate and graduate statistics courses, and supervise graduate students. This tenure-track position offers a competitive startup package and the chance to work with various research centers and institutes across campus, including: Vermont Complex Systems and Data Science Center Larner College of Medicine UVM Cancer Center UVM Transportation Research Center Justice Research Initiative and National Center on Restorative Justice Center on Disability and Community Inclusion Vermont Advanced Computing Core Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources Key Responsibilities As an Assistant Professor of Statistics, your primary responsibilities will include: Developing and maintaining an active research program in statistics, data science, or biostatistics Teaching undergraduate and graduate statistics courses, including introductory and advanced courses Supervising and mentoring graduate students, including master's and Ph.D. students Participating in departmental and university service, including committee work and advising Contributing to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching, and service Essential Qualifications To be considered for this position, you must have: A doctorate in statistics, biostatistics, data science, or a related field prior to the start date A strong research record and potential for publication and presentation in peer-reviewed scholarly outlets Excellent teaching skills and a commitment to undergraduate and graduate education The ability to work effectively in a collaborative and interdisciplinary environment Preferred Qualifications While not required, the following qualifications are highly desirable: Experience with statistical computing and programming languages, such as R, Python, or MATLAB Familiarity with data science and machine learning techniques Experience with grant writing and extramural funding A strong record of mentoring and supervising students Skills and Competencies To succeed in this role, you will need: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills The ability to work effectively in a team environment A strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion The ability to teach and mentor students from diverse backgrounds A willingness to adapt to changing departmental and university needs Career Growth Opportunities and Learning Benefits The University of Vermont is committed to the professional growth and development of its faculty.
