Job Overview We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Long Term Substitute Teacher - MLL to join our team for the 2023-2024 school year. As a substitute teacher, you will have the opportunity to work with students in a variety of settings, providing instruction and support in the specific area of specialty. Key Responsibilities Follow the scope and sequence of the instructional program as defined and approved by the Norwalk Board of Education Set and reinforce clear expectations and routines to maintain an advantageous learning environment Prepare lesson plans that achieve clear objectives, use appropriate techniques, and serve the needs of all learners in the classroom Demonstrate strong content knowledge and maintain accurate and complete records as required Conduct parent/teacher conferences and keep parents up-to-date on student progress through interim reports, report cards, and/or conferences Assess student learning on a continual basis and identify areas of intervention if needed Design instruction to meet the needs of all students through both individual and small group settings as needed Design and implement assessments that measure progress and use assessments to refine curriculum and instructional practices Maintain a positive learning environment that encourages open communication between the teacher and learner Maintain a positive school community image that encourages ethical student behavior Assist in the selection of textbooks, equipment, and other educational materials Establish and maintain professional relationships with colleagues, parents, and students Participate in professional learning opportunities to improve instructional practice and positively affect student achievement Essential Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in TESOL Active TESOL K-12 (111) or Bilingual Certification Expertise in writing instruction with an in-depth knowledge of language and written language development Demonstrated experience with implementing progress monitoring measures Proven experience working with teams of educational professionals in collaborative settings In-depth knowledge of best practices in curriculum, instruction, and assessment development aligned to the CCSS Outstanding interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills in working with students and their families Sensitivity, understanding, and appreciation for the needs and strengths of a diverse school district and community Preferred Qualifications Experience working with students in a multicultural environment Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing Effective, active listening skills Ability to work effectively with others Organizational and problem-solving skills Career Growth Opportunities and Learning Benefits At Norwalk Public Schools, we are committed to supporting the professional growth and development of our staff. Compensation, Perks, and Benefits We offer a competitive salary and benefits package, including a daily rate of $110 per day for the first 39 days and $254.38 per day for 40+ days.
