Job Overview The Lead Data Scientist will play a crucial role in leading the development and implementation of numerical and statistical hypothesis and techniques to create long-term predictive models that solve business problems in retail. With a deep understanding of decision science procedures, the successful candidate will be responsible for changing the way retail operations work by automating many of the processes that currently require manual action and intervention through science and statistical models. Key Responsibilities Lead the development and implementation of numerical and statistical hypothesis and techniques to create long-term predictive models that solve business problems in retail Gather, organize, analyze, interpret, and summarize large amounts of time-series data to generate key insights leading to new innovative applications Explore complex and rich data, assess business problems, develop problem statements, define metrics, and drive possibility studies Perform data analysis tasks, extract insights, and create storyboards from data analysis Present clear and accurate root cause analysis to peer scientists and leadership Build training workflows for machine learning algorithms on large datasets and create algorithmic solutions including data understanding, feature engineering, model development, validation, and model deployment Lead and develop large-scale implementations of machine learning models and algorithmic solutions using rich retail data sources Review model performance and identify improvements to enhance models Collaborate with the global AI team, scientists, engineers, and stakeholders to identify and lead new opportunities Essential Qualifications The successful candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Math, Statistics, or a closely related quantitative field, and at least 7 years of experience as a data or machine learning scientist (any title) including participating in advanced machine learning activities (regression, clustering, and forecasting); leading the development and implementation of scientific and data science modeling solutions by using methods including data mining, machine learning, or text mining; using mathematical concepts, algorithms, and computational complexity; collaborating with colleagues to bring business value to the organization; presenting findings and reports to stakeholders; and using Python, SQL, R, SAS, risk analysis, and data manipulation. Preferred Qualifications In the alternative, arenaflex will accept a Doctorate (PhD) degree in Math, Statistics, or a closely related quantitative field, and at least 4 years of experience as a data or machine learning scientist (any title) including participating in advanced machine learning activities (regression, clustering, and forecasting); leading the development and implementation of scientific and data science modeling solutions by using methods including data mining, machine learning, or text mining; using mathematical concepts, algorithms, and computational complexity; collaborating with colleagues to bring business value to the organization; presenting findings and reports to stakeholders; and using Python, SQL, R, SAS, risk analysis, and data manipulation. Skills and Competencies The successful candidate will have a strong background in machine learning, probability theory, and statistics, as well as experience with deep learning, data pipeline engineering, distributed systems, database architecture, linear programming, and data mining. Proficiency in SQL, R, Python, Flash, C, JavaScript, Scala, Hadoop, Hive, HTML, Matlab, Java, and Shell scripting is also required.
