As a Scheduling Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth flow of patients throughout our Gastroenterology department. Job Summary We're seeking a Scheduling Specialist - Gastroenterology to join our team in Medford, NJ. As a Scheduling Specialist, you will be responsible for scheduling inpatient or outpatient procedures, informing patients and physician offices of prep instructions or other test requirements, and correctly identifying patients and matching medical records. You will also facilitate hospital care, act as the key contact within the department for coordinating the admission process and scheduling surgical procedures, and handle a high volume of incoming and outgoing communication from the unit while providing excellent customer service. Key Responsibilities Schedule inpatient or outpatient procedures, ensuring accurate input of surgical procedures and preference cards, orders Inform patients and physician offices of prep instructions or other test requirements Correctly identify patients, match medical records, and facilitate hospital care Act as the key contact within the department for coordinating the admission process and scheduling surgical procedures Alert facilitators of current or potential problems and assist in resolution Handle a high volume of incoming and outgoing communication from the unit while providing excellent customer service Maintain medical records, stat reports, enter data into multiple databases, and run reports as required Maintain office supplies and equipment Assist in orienting new staff on scheduling and data collection processes Assist with unit coverage as needed Requirements and Qualifications Essential Qualifications: Previous medical clerical experience Understanding of medical terminology Computer user proficiency (data entry) Clear communication skills Professional phone demeanor High School Diploma or equivalent required Preferred Qualifications: Experience in a gastroenterology or similar medical specialty Familiarity with electronic medical records and scheduling systems Certification in medical administration or a related field Skills and Competencies To succeed as a Scheduling Specialist - Gastroenterology, you will need: Excellent organizational and time management skills Strong attention to detail and accuracy Effective communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks Proficiency in Microsoft Office and electronic medical records Career Growth Opportunities and Learning Benefits At Virtua Health, we're committed to the growth and development of our colleagues.
